Sheedy, you're a disgrace : Craig Foster : The World Game on SBS

Kevin Sheedy?s comments are a disgrace to this country, a throwback to the dark old days of anti-immigration and the ?sheilas, @@@@ and poofters? mentality that football fought against for so long.

They reek of ignorance towards what modern Australia is all about.

Missionary Sheedy deserves to be judged by his actions

The joy of Kevin Sheedy is that he looks outside the AFL's small world. He seeks people and ideas and looks to include them. He is a missionary, but one who embraces and learns in new territory rather than forcefully imposing his ideology. He has a hunger for knowledge, knowing it is pointless asking people to understand his obscure sport unless he understands them.

I'm as bleeding heart left wing as they come and I have to say I think it's a bit of a beat up, I'm not shocked it's News Limited and soccer folks leading the charge.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

There are a lot of different ethnicities out west whose 1st love is Soccer so the Wanderers did have a ready made supporter base. The Wanderers did marvelously well in harnessing this. However I wasn't aware that it was racist to point out that fact.
..And the Swans are the Premiers...The Ultimate Team...The Ultimate Warriors. They have overcome the highly fancied Hawks in brilliant style. Sydney the 2012 Premiers - Gerard Whately ABC

As Meatloaf said , you took the words right out of my mouth. But if it's okay with you , I'll pass on the "whilst you were kissin' me" bit.

Not well-chosen remarks., but he incurred the wrath of Craig Foster, so there is an upside.

It wasn't smart to mention DIMA, it was opening yourself for ridicule. I don't think it was well thought out, but still a big beat up because even considering mentioning DIMA the remarks weren't that bad (and, realistically, he wouldn't have made the comments without mentioning DIMA because that was kind of the point!).

I read the start of the Craig Foster thing, it was clear to me that he had a pre-existing axe to grind with Sheeds anyway and was just jumping at the opportunity. Any time I've heard Foster speak on something related to Australian Rules it seems to always be that he has his back up and is being overly sensitive and defensive, but then turns to attack on Australian Rules (only played in Australia etc.) instead of sensible arguments for his own sport. "oh, you can't say that about me- nobody should say things like that.... now let me saying exactly the same sort of stuff in response!"

You'd be surprised, soccer fans have been flooding the SBS The World Game and the Giants official FB page with abuse towards Sheedy over the comments.

The more I think about it I now think that wasn't Sheedy's intention. The reaction from soccer fans has been way over the top. If one thinks about it Craig Foster is a hypocrite for his rant in SBS The World Game yesterday. Is this the same Craig Foster, the Pom hating Anglophobe who has used his position in the media to openly express his disdain towards Britain. As a soccer fan if anyone is a racist it's Craig Foster.
