I just thought that he looked like he belonged - he was composed, got to lots of contests and made great decisions. The precision and vision of his hand passing was well evident. I don't think anyone watching who didn't know it was his debut would have picked it for a moment.

you would guess Morton may struggle to keep his spot when Reid comes back and they will want to keep Tommy Mitchell

Sportsbet were generously offering 150/1 about Tom for the Rising Star during Thursday after the swans had announced he was playing against EsS.
        I couldn't resist..grabbed a bit.
This morning, they've reeled him into 10/1 3rd favourite.
Sorry to do a Tom Waterhouse, but so pleased to get one up on the bookies...now it's up to Mitch.

Who would you drop to keep him in the side? Jude? Benny? or ?? Not best 22 when all players are fit, however super excited by the potential.

Not 110 % ready yet, but soon! Finals specialist??

Injuries may help his chances for more games..

I'm not convinced at all he isn't in the top 22 Rod. I know it was only one game, but sometimes you just know when someone belongs. And he does.

Also, on Saturday night he spent a lot of time playing as an outside midfielder/up forward. If you think he went well on Saturday, just wait till he gets more into the guts, then we will all see just how good he is.

It may be that he stays in for just a few games before going back to the ressies, but if he puts in a couple more performances like Saturday, then he won't be going anywhere if he stays fit.

The beauty is, and I think it was Ball on Gameday on Sunday that said it is: Our midfield is sooo good that you can tag one or two out of the game and others pop up and fill the void.

They can't tag all of them Gerry. Also not many clubs have forwards good enough to play defensively on Malceski and McVeigh.

"I just followed the direction from the senior players ...

Yeah very modest cause if you watched him closely, he actually did quite a bit of directing himself! With only a couple of quarters under his belt he was playing like a 200 gamer.

Yeah he's a gun ... and a son of a gun to boot!

Have to agree with Matty Lloyds assesment of Mitchell,Lloyd twice in last few days has said Tom is the best decision maker he has seen come thru the AIS squads.Injuries permitting i wouldnt make him play reserves ever again.

I know one thing - I cannot remember a better debut from a kid (under 21). Not based on his stats but based on the conditions and having to face up to the mature harden bodies in the slippery wet conditions. The stats were 6 tackles (as much as anyone) and 9 goal assists!! that's is incredible. The RWO twitter person who got big odds about Mitchell winning the rising star should be very happy, cause I think he has a real chance.

                            Whitfield wins rising star nomination....He had 20 poss's and 1 goal, in a full game....And I'll bet he didn't have 9 score involvement's!

                            Mitchell must of been close.

They very rarely give it to first gamers unless they are close to BOG

Whitfield was good in that game and deserves the nomination, as ugg said they rarely give it to someone on debut and I think they like to see a body of work. Whitfield's young and slight, but in the games he's played at AFL level so far you can see why he was a #1 pick.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time
