    McVeigh on half back flank

I think the last 3-4 weeks by Jarrod McVeigh are the best I have seen him play. He makes great decision, his disposal is first class and he has great run. Happy for him to stay there no that Mitchell has come in to the midfield. Takes the pressure on Shaw coming back too early.

Jarrad is quite flexible as he can also play in the half forward kicking and assisting goals. But for now, as you say, he is great across the half back working wonderfully with the Eski.

It's no coincidence his move to half back has coincided with the Swans dominance. I hope he stays there.

Generally the Swans play with 7 defenders in the team. Usually 3 tall, 4 med/small.

        See what happens...

It's arguably opened up a spot for Mitchell in the middle, so working out well!

Has been put there to fill gap, I think it will be permanent based on the success of the move.
Has great delivery skills and sets up alot of attacks. replaces Marty and now shaw has time to find fitness and form to get his spot back.

Yes, I think this move has been the key for us. We saw what happened when the opposition put a defensive forward on Esky - we lost all our drive and got toweled up. Now that we have Macca down there as well, the opposition has to make a decision as to whether they go with two defensive half forwards or not. To do so would diminish their scoring power by not allowing the ball past the forward line, but to not do so means that we attack from the HB line and set up a slingshot. Not a good decision for an opposition coach to have to make.
Note what has happened in recent weeks: stats show that the other teams get it into our 50 regularly but do not necessarily result in a score. This is because they are having to defend in their own 50, not attack. Ah, sunny days...

The back 7 are working so well, I wouldn't bring in Shaw even if fit. Shaw can play the defensive forward role that Bird usually plays and let Bird play more in the midfield.

Then who do you drop from the midfield?

If we don't get any more significant injuries, it's going to be painful seeing well performing players get squeezed out for the likes of Shaw, LRT, Reid, Tippett

I think once Shaw has match fitness, he'll come straight back in. It'll be super harsh on whoever drops out of the 22, but he is too important. He gives a third different option out of the back. You've got Malceski's good delivery, at the moment McVeigh's clear head and logical ball use, but with Shaw you get someone willing to take the line on and run hard. He is too good not to be in the team imo.
