    Mumford's contract

    Any news on mummy re-signing?
I'm a little bit worried to be honest, I don't have a good feeling about Mumford, do you think he's had offers elsewhere?

This can be costly because if we are going to lose Mumford I think we have to think a few steps forward and get White more games, we do have a good tall group but Pyke is 29 years old, Tippet we want mainly as a forward with the occasional ruck duties and LRT is getting on with age aswell.
I think we need to consider what will happen if Mummy does go and not give away White, we obviously need that depth of tall because they do go through a lot of injuries.

I hope he stays and brings back his best form, I think we just need to be careful if he doesn't.

I'd be shocked if he didn't have offers from elsewhere. Dare I say it, and I doubt he'd be their overall top target, but good as Giles has been for them, if you watch GWS game you do think "wow, imagine them with a dominant ruckman + 1 more key back + 1 more marking forward target (which Patton will probably give them)!"
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Yes, GWS have been negligent in finding a second ruckman. Why they didnt chase Jesse White is beyond me. We were offering him up cheap, and his form would be enough to get a regular birth at GWS. He gives them the ruck/foward combo they need.

I dont know why they would target buddy, when they have cameron and patton already. They need a ruck/forward combo.

GWS must chase a key defender. Its their glaring weakness.

I think Gold Coast are the ones which will be likely to snatch White if we let them, but I don't think we can afford to lose Whote if we lose Mumford, that'll be a massive blow!

With question marks of Walsh's AFL career and LRT getting old -- I reckon we need to keep White regardless if Mummy stays or not.

GWS have been very open about needing another quality ruckman, but I don't think that they need another key defender. They have 3 quality young key defenders now in Davis, Mohr and Plowman. Then they have 5 other high draft choices in Jakcsh, Tomlinson (both can play forward), Corr, Stewart and Josh Bruce. They also elevated Sam Frost from the rookie. On top of that they are likely to take monster key forward Tom Boyd with their no.1 draft pick. To me it seems that they have an excess of quality young KPPs. They all can't fit in the team, and they are sure to have a few that deserve senior selection that will not find a spot.

Assuming that Pyke, Tippett and White all get through the season both fit and in in good form, would that be sufficient to go into next year without Mummy? I think it might. We, on the other hand, will need another quality KPP once Richards retires. I would be happy to trade Mummy for Kristian Jakcsh, last year's number 12 pick. I am not sure if that's an even trade from either our point of view as well as the Giant's. But it looks like a win-win trade to me.

I'm very worried aswell by Mummy's contract. We cannot afford to lose him. So bloody important.
LRT. Lord Roberts-Thompson. He may look like the Munster, but looks can be deceiving.

We got Mummy cheap. He is entitled to a decent pay rise. I expect there is some hard bargaining going on. My money is on him staying simply because we need him. I am sure he was factored in when they went after Tippett.

My take on Mummy's contract situation....

Watching Mummy charge, at full pace, from one end of the field to the other, only to be ignored...Then to charge all the way back to defence, on the rebound, to impact a contest and help the defence...

This is something he has done 2 weeks in a row now......

He wants to stay and he's ,rightfully, upping the ante for a big pay rise.

IMO...Swans will pay, and he will stay.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

And so they should. They would be crazy to not to re-sign him.

Love the way Mummy plays, so I hope he stays.

I believe his holding our for a 4 year contract, but believe the Swans may prefer to give him 2 to 3, due to his inury issues.

Hopefully money isn't an issue, as we should be able to afford him with one or two retirements and a delisting for next season.
