    Bird 100 games

Swans website posted this the other day. Don't think it's been posted hear yet. I think this milestone deserves its own thread.

He's had very few bad games really in the 99 to date and is IMHO crucial to our premiership defence. Can take on a lot of roles and usually does them all well. In our first 22 for mine even if everyone is available.

Congratulations Craig Bird on 100 games. It hasn't always been easy for Birdie. After being given Kells number the expectations were very high, maybe a little too high but the lad has done it his way. He is a really great team man and has the capacity to do the seemingly impossible at the important moment.

Flirted with being a RWO wipping boy but managed to duck that bullet.

        Good player.

Congratulations to Craig, won't fall back into the clutches of possible whipping boy now, 200 games very much on the cards.

Much under-rated player who is playing an increasingly important role in the team. Interesting that he recently had a career high possession game that may indicate he will get better still as his acute injury problems recede into the past.

Yes, looks like Birdie is now injury free, starting to play with confidence, and showing us what he can do. His progress reminds me a bit of McVeigh's in that for quite some time Jarrod was there-abouts but not quite living up to expectations. Go Birdie, the pressure is on to cement your place in the team with all the young 'stars' coming up, and you are well and truly rising to the challenge!

Yes, wearing Paul Kelly and Bobby Skilton's number is a lot to live up to but Birdie is quickly becoming one of our old reliables.

Hope you have a blinder for your 100th, Birdie! Congratulations!

                    Onya Birdy. Love your work.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

How about Birdy lives up to Tony Franklin, David Young, Stephen Allender, Bill Picken, Michael Byrne and John Michael Kennedy who have all arguably worn the number 14 with less distinction than Skilts & Kells since Bob last donned it (are we still allowed to call him the Chimp?).

Congrats Craig. You play the game in a style worthy of Skilts & Kells ... with time I hope that the next player honored with the bestowing of the number 14 will have have RWOers posting "Yes, wearing Paul Kelly, Bobby Skilton & Craig Bird's number is a lot to live up to"

One of my favourite swans. I always feel better with him in the side. Needs to break out the side step for his 100th.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

I was at Birdys debut and I thought his good decision making in contests was immediately apparent. He hasn't been one of the types who play consistently first class football from day one, but I think he's almost always contributed positively and while doing defensive jobs will have learnt a lot, ala McVeigh, as he matures over the next few years I think we'll see him develop into an elite user of the ball, at least by hand.

Talk about under the radar!! 100 games. I would have guessed 50; low key approach apparently. Have a flying blinder Birdy!!
