That Draw could be costly after all.

If we'd lost that game to freo we'd be still be in 4th spot ahead of Freo on %, and still be in a tight battle with Freo and Essendon/Geelong for a top 4 spot as we are currently.

However, if we'd not let it slip out of our control, we'd be sitting in 2nd place by %, and looking fairly comfortable for a top 4 spot as Freo would be 2 games and 20% points behind.

I wait with bated breath to see the ladder in 6 weeks time!!

i think bombers are the ones who will drop out of the top 4 with the way the draw is ,that is even before considering whether they ultimately lose points over the asda enquiry..yes freo may jump us with percentage but that would still leave us in 4th and most likely a meeting with the hawks first week of finals -which I somehow prefer to meeting geelong first up..however that is saying that the draw runs to form and we all know upsets occur..i am very confident of us staying in the top 4 and launching another golden September run

There is no way in gods green earth that Essendon wont be stripped of points.

The top 4 is locked. Dawks, Pussy's, Freo and Us.

Agreed - the AFL will declare , not by their words but by their actions , that they do not want the "risk" of Essendon as premiers.
I do not for one minute think they are "happy" that Watson is injured , although they are probably relieved it rules him out of the BM reckoning.

Here's a good article on the likely outcomes of the ladder (maybe it's good because I like its conclusion )

            AFL Footy Maths

These guys run models on likely outcomes of games based on team performance against expectations throughout the season. To the extent that you can predict these things, they are pretty good at it.

It will come down to the final round against Hawthorn. We will win, get 4th spot, play Hawthorn again the following week.

The Rd 23 game could prove to be a bit of a scheduling worry. Given the criticism they copped last year with Hawthorns 6-day break before their QF (not unfair criticism either) I'd imagine the AFL would have been keen to play Hawks/Swans on Fri night and get the Hawks back to Melb with a decent break before the finals, particularly if they finish minor premiers.

Unfortunately, the NRL have a game there on the Fri night, so that can't happen, leaving us to play them on Sat afternoon which will be a bit of a fizzer crowd wise and Sat night, which gives Hawthorn less time to get back to Melb. That also runs the risk of an even @@@@tier than the normal @@@@ty playing surface with a game no more than 24hrs after a rugby game.

Given we are all but certain to finish in the top 6 and a home final is guaranteed at some stage, wouldn't it be good to play the Rd 23 on a Friday night at the SCG. The AFL should successfully argue to ANZ that they will be getting a final that they weren't guaranteed.

Either that or lobby the NRL to move their blockbuster Canterbury v Penrith extravaganza and the 14K crowd (generous estimation) to another timeslot....

Lets remember - in the end we were lucky to even get a draw.

A dud kick by Johnson and a great mark by Sam.

They are two bonus points to be honest.

If we won the draw and the Dawks lost a surprise game and lose to us R23. I could have one a swans higher than hawks season on the ladder bet. Its a standing bet with a dawks supporter. A case of CC and dry. Looks like i'll be $80 poorer again this year. BUT last years donation was well worth it... so history repeats right?!

If it'll help sway the voting, my 8yo daughter is desperate for it to be a day game so she can come along. Not for the footy mind you, she loves Vili's Pies and the SCG doesn't have them.

I'll be happy if it is not a Friday night game.

I have decided to come to Sydney for this game and last time there was a Friday night fixture at Homebush (a glorious Prelim win over the Pies last year) the special events buses from Chatswood were gridlocked in typical Friday Sydney traffic. I got on a bus well over an hour before first bounce and only just made it.

I'd be OK with any other timeslot at Homebush or any time at the SCG (but that won't happen - this could be a bumper crowd and easy to promote).

Trains are better when going to ANZ, they're pretty frequent and normally cheerful events in themselves

The special events buses from the northern beaches which pass through Chatswood are excellent public transport for me normally. Similar great atmosphere with nothing but footy fans on board. The buses run every couple of minutes about two blocks away from my Sydney accommodation and have you at the ground in 20 minutes. The only exception was the peak-hour traffic gridlock on that great Friday night last year.
