Good win in the end. For a while there (in the first three quarters) it was touch and go for a while, but strong last quarter. Great spread of goals again, kudos to Tippett kicking a best for Swans this season too.

Ignore all the commentators they still have this VFL mentality. Stuff them all we just need to keep playing to our strengths. Kurt is a champion had he been playing for the full season the Coleman would be in the bag. Now only 3 goals from being the Swans top scorer for the year. ONWARDS to VICTORY.Comment

Pretty impressive win. Bulldogs followed the Port playbook and won almost every key stat: inside 50s 60-54, tackles 96-79 disposal efficiency 78-74%, disposals 406-362. Still we won by five goals. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

Credit to the Dogs. They played with intensity and took their chances. We were loose and careless in defence. Grundy is too slow and has poor disposal; he will probably keep his place this year because we have no options. But I suspect that next year, injuries permitting, he could lose his place.
Rhyce was certainly off the pace of the game. I don't know if this game will help him get up to speed or he will just not make it this year.
Heard an interview with Macca; doesn't sound like Jetta will be back this year.
So, I think the next 'healthy' inclusion will be Benny next week, and if I had my choice I would drop Rhyce back to the Ressies to gain a bit more match fitness.
I think we should get both Goodes and Reid back in a few weeks and that will be critical. Maybe Rohan can make a contribution this year as well.Comment

He is clearly instructed to play wide of the contest on the field and off it. Presumably with a view of not creating a two on two.
If people like you weren't so damn critical and actually watched the game on its merits a bit it would be helpful.
For the first half the midfielders didn't lower their eyes and kicked it long to the square and clearly over jesses head. In the third quarter we couldn't win it in the contest.
I think tactically longmire made an error in this. The dogs are very good inside and the chances of us getting clean possession to Jesse on the wing was always going to be difficult.
I am not saying he was great. I am saying the log in your eye is blinding youComment

With Jetta, at this point if I was the Swans I'd keep him in cotton wool and start him fresh for next season. Last thing they need now is if he came back early was to get more bruising and a stress fracture (reminds me of Birdy with his foot and the stress fractures he had).Comment

Barry was doing the interview and called out to white as all the other swans were in defensive fifty bar the three talls - and Tippett and mummy followed the ball into our fifty and Barry called out to white - who I don't think wanted to do it but there was no one else near.Comment

Got no time, no energy and patience to deal with Jesse White haters today. Today I'm just going to let them prance around the orchards of many trees upon which KPP in their prime grow. Either that or let them attend a global summit of geniuses that believe that going forward the Swans don't need a dominant forward partnership or a flexible tall or a backup ruckman and that Adam Goodes will never retire."Take me down to the Paradise City where the grass is green and the Swans win pretty."Comment

Just back from Etihad.
Reading the gripes about the commentators, we seem to have gone from under the radar to taken for granted.
The Bulldogs played very good football today and were the perhaps the best midfield we have played. They are short a couple of key position players and if they get them could cause a lot more surprises. Their defence is very good, and so is their willingness to man up.
Our overall fitness and accuracy on some critical occasions were enough to get us across the line. The further it went the better we looked, but we could have played a bit tighter earlier. I thought the standouts were Kieren, Kurt and Mummy.
I agree that the umpires were woefully inconsistent, especially on holding.Last edited by dimelb; 4 August 2013, 05:28 PM.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

I thought Rampe and Everitt were pretty good today. Having said that it looked to me that the dogs had a number of small forwards who caused us some concern. Their forward pressure was outstanding.
Can anyone from the cheersquad tell me if Tippets arms were getting smashed when he got his hands on the ball in marking contests in the square or thereabouts.

I think the umps were ok. There were so many tackles that you can't expect "ball" decisions too often, given in many cases the tackles were hot with little prior opportunity. Agree we had players clearly dragged away in the tackle after the ball had gone.Comment
