I think some perspective can be found in our most succesful recent years (IMHO) - 2005, 2006 and 2013. During all these seasons the Swans have shown periods of very dour football, been written off by all and sundry and yet still played in the grand final. No reason this season could be the same. If Cat and Hawk fans were like us they would still be dwelling on being run down by Brisbane and losing to Richmond respectively - even though we are all going to be playing in the qualifying finals.

I have been dreading this scenario! Luckily the Tigers have stolen a handy 5% break over Collingwood with their thumping of the Giants today, so as long as they beat Essendon, they will finish ahead of the Pies. Thanks, GWS!

Its pretty simple. We play our best fully-fit team this week, and try our best to beat hawthorn, then next week we play them again, possibly including a few who arent quite 100%.

We win the first final and the road to tge granny is easy. Id live to see hawks v geelong in a prelim. Meaning one of freo and sydney have git to win week 1

Call me glass half full, but I think there is a fair chance the coaching staff have planned it that we increase the training load in preparation for the finals as well as not using any game plans that will be utilised. The slingshot disappeared in the last 4-5 weeks of the H&A last season as well as Jetta's form, then reappeared on que. Yesterday and Next Fridays game would be treated like preseason games before the real deal.

Subiaco is also unavailable on the Saturday of week two due to the Wallabies test.

On After the Bounce tonight it was said that only 6 of the last 16 grand finals have been played by the top 2 teams.

You are way too optimistic. Dreaming. Swans are one dimensional at the moment. They are Tippett-centric going forward. Sadly I do not think we can win anything with Tippett at FF. Too predicatble.

                  Ever? That's a big call?

You're too pessimistic. Do you think this team have played better than they did yesterday at any stage since Kurt arrived? If so you can either think that JL has messed up the team by getting KT, or that the kids have run out of legs (and skills), or that they might be planning for finals. You can either plan a holiday for September or hang around and see which of these scenarios is the right one.

If it was me, everything from here would be geared to the Week 1 final. IMO, our one and only shot of winning the flag this year will come if we knock off the Dawks in week 1. I just don't think, with the players we are missing, and the form we are in, that we are going to be able to lose in the 1st week, then win the next three to win a flag. We have to win in week 1, get a week off to rest up and then go from there.

We get nothing from winning on Friday night, so imo best to rest players (within reason) that need a rest, get anyone that is a remote chance of coming back (Jetta perhaps, maybe LRT) in the team to get a game of fitness into them. We most certainly should not be picking anyone that is carrying injury or needs a rest for Friday. Who cares if they come out and beat us by 10 goals - it really doesn't matter.

Seriously, what a ridiculous thing to say! We are too predictable and one dimensional at the moment, but that is more a result of us generally being under enormous pressure coming out of the middle, and the midfield not working hard enough to get forward to provide support. To say we can't win anything with tippett is just crazy though. He is the one guy in our team that genuinally could come out and kick a big bag, and in a final you just never know - he could be the man that drags us over the line.

Of all the years to go the long way around in the finals series, I think this is the one.

Would be good to get another game to try and bring some of the incoming players up to speed. We wont go out in straight sets, but the prelim onwards will be an uphill struggle.

I would agree, except for the fact our midfield is looking absolutely shot at the moment in terms of fitness - they look slow and really jaded. I don't think we will go out in straight sets either, but as I said earlier, the only way I can see us making the GF is if we put everything into next week and win in Wk 1 and get a week off.

I agree. Could not give a @@@@ how much we get flogged by this week. If there's a 1% chance someone is injured or tired - rest them. As long as our long-term injured players aren't actually injured anymore, bring them back for a run! Even if they just jog around and talk to girls over the fence - it is better than trying to win at all costs for no reason. JL knows this. It's like the last few weeks have been marking practice for Tippett. This will happen again this week.

You just know that opposition coaches know what Longmire is doing, and know how to foil it, but they also know that Longmire knows that they know, so they foil the obvious gameplan but know that something else will be served up in the finals. Opposition coaches double- and triple-team Tippett with a wry smile that acknowledges that this won't be any help to them in their preparation for September. Check. Longmire could turn out to be an even bigger genius than what I already think he is. Checkmate.

If you are right BT and we win another flag, then Longmire deserves a statue next to Roosy, as it would be a brilliant ploy to say the least!

Put yourself in hawthorns perspective. Win or lose they are top 2. Lose and they may get to play freo in first final.

They may tank and "rest" players too.
