    AFL sets interchange cap

Just announced on Twitter by Media Relations Manager Patrick Keane
AFL has advised all clubs AFL Commission has approved a cap on interchange rotations for the next two years across the 2014 & 2015 Seasons.
AFL Commission has set a cap of 120 rotations per match, plus any changes made at quarter breaks and the use of the substitute.
Interchange cap will not have any quarter by quarter restrictions, with use of interchange to be managed as each club sees fit across game.
The interchange cap will be set for 2 years and then re-assessed by AFL Commission late in 2015 season for decision for 2016 season onwards.
Considering we've are one of the sides that utilise the interchange the most over the past decade or so, how does this impact on our game style, our structures and personnel going forward?

Fantastic, what we needed was more complexity!
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Disappointing decision, against all the players in the AFL's wishes. Surely the needs of the player should be considered as almost paramount?

How hard is it for the interchange steward to count to 120? Oh wait, they couldn't even count 3 proper interchanges during that Geelong-Hawthorn match

I am surprised that they are keeping the substitute, after all wasn't that brought in as an alternative to an interchange cap?

Does the Interchange cap come with our club memberships? Do we wear them when the other one gets nicked at a pies game?

Does this mean injured players will be treated on the ground to save an unnecessary rotation?

No it means the oppositions colours are on the inside of the cap, so when the swans lose you just flip it around and walk out of the ground a winner after every game.

This will put a premium on endurance athletes over sprinters. It will be bad for impact players like Dane Swan who come on to make a big impact in short bursts. There's going to be a lot of running in the pre-season. Also will effect how players are rated in the draft.

I like it, if it keeps the better players on the park for longer.

I'm yet to meet one supporter who likes the sub rule. By supporter I mean guys like us who post on fan forums and go to games. It's especially annoying when a young player you have watched come thru the ranks of the 2's gets to make his debut and he gets all of 20 mins running around at the end, sometimes well after the game has run its race.

Hate it, hate it, hate it.

I would think with our current list, which has midfielders in all the non-key positions from half-back through to full forward, we'd be at an advantage because our midfielders will be able to rest forward and by rotating with the small forwards who will move into the centre. If that makes sense?

I hate the sub rule as well. If they are desperate to have a sub rule, if it was me making the rules your bench would be 4 + a sub, not 3 + a sub.

As for this rotation cap, I really don't see what its going to do to be honest. Its too high to have a massive impact on the game (though players will have longer on the ground). Just like the majority of rule changes since about 2005, its just about tinkering for the sake of tinkering. If it ain't broke, don't bludy well fix it!

Don't see the need to change either - I suppose we will no longer see players running off straight after a set shot - never quite understood that one - sure if the play was end to end non stop then goal - but forwards waiting in the goal square for the ball to be delivered on the chest and then taking 30 secs then sprinting off is overkill - don't think it will have much impact at all apart from giving someone a job to keep count !!
