    Lynch plays on....

Brisbane Lions favourite Alastair Lynch has decided to continue playing at the elite level and will kick on into his 17th AFL season in 2004.

Lynch, 36 next June, informed coach Leigh Matthews of his decision this afternoon, following several weeks contemplating his future while holidaying with his young family on the Sunshine Coast.

Lynch has reviewed his football future on an annual basis in recent seasons, and again came to the conclusion that he has the mental drive and physical capabilities to continue.

?Having had the break and time to relax, and consider all options available to me, I?m really looking forward to playing on,? Lynch said.

?I enjoy all aspects of being involved in a particularly successful club with such a great bunch of players, and I want to retain that.

?I feel the body is still capable of being a regular part of this team and that the hunger is still there for me to make a reasonable contribution.?

Lynch is one of 16 Lions players to have played in each of the past three premierships in a row, and is well aware that the great Collingwood side of 1927-30 is the only one to have achieved four consecutive flags.

?There is a unique opportunity ahead of us next season,? he said.

Lynch has played 293 premiership games and will become the first Tasmanian-born player to achieve the magic 300-game milestone next year. More importantly, he has booted club records of 74 and 78 goals in the last two seasons, and plays a key role in the structure of the Lions side at full-forward.
