Umm land any player we want? What's the Ablett thing I can't remember? Sure The 'AFL' has dibbled and dabbled with a bit of concession here and there ... while ignoring many practical difficulties of interstate teams. Strewth you only have to listen to strangely untouchables like Brian Taylor pretending to be commentators. The unquestionable support of failing Vic teams for so long... god give me strength!

But in reality it was a paper tiger. The VFL attempted to control it and when the other states rebelled and vetoed any VFL proposal, the Victorians went ahead and did it anyway."

Other people on this board have given their own take from time to time. I won't name them, but if anyone wants to chip in here with their own stories I hope they will. The fundamental issue is: is this a national game or not? It's all very well to call it "Australia's game", as has been done increasingly of recent times (the book of that title is a cracker), but the administration is still very much Victorian in orientation. An example: why is there no Tasmanian team in the national competition when it is a dyed-in-the-wool Australian Football state?
But on this subject you could run a thread longer than Tippett's!

I have never heard of the attempt to start the NFL, thanks for the heads up sounds like a very good read hope i can find a copy. The fact we dont have a tasmanian team has always been an interesting topic and i think the AFL's line on it is it wouldnt be profitable, if thats the case why let any games be played there. Surely a team starting in western sydney would be less financially viable in the short term than one in Tassie, not too say we shouldnt have GWS of course we should just makes their argument about Tassie not being viable seem very thin.

Sorry the Ablett thing was just my poor attempt at humour, just meant if the AFL was helping us land any player we wanted then what happened with Ablett , Taylor is just plain awful i agree, turning into another Bruce and becoming a parody of himself with catchphrases etc very lazy stuff. So annoying down here though as most people write the swans off even in our best years as "well who wouldnt win with all that extra salary cap and AFL help" , ive argued with many a person over it , these days i just try to ignore them as it really winds me up if i let it.

Well if club colours represent one's history of intimacy, I seriously don't want to know what that says about Hawthorn.

Fremantle for me. It's a somewhat nostalgic choice, it's where I disembarked all those years ago ...

Fremantle's colors are purple and white. They look like dark or navy blue and white to me. Can someone tell me why this is so, please? Does anyone have a PMS color for the purple? Do my eyes and televisions need adjusting?
Supporting the club formerly known as South Melbourne ?

With all the variants of purple that are available, I have been used to classifying them as red purple or blue purple. Freo wear blue purple.

The AFL were hoping it was to be the Swans playing in the GF and this is as close as they can get to it happening.

Since when does purple clash with wee/poo? Strange.

It doesn't. According to what I have read, Hawthorn get to wear home uniform because they finished higher in the H & A season. The Dockers were asked to wear white shorts which they could have worn with their purple guernsey. However they then chose to wear their full clash strip.

SINCE WHEN DOES PURPLE CLASH WITH YELLOW AND @@@@?

It's Freo's best week for marketing in their history and no club colours? I can already see how decisions on Saturday are going to pan out. I'd be ropable if I were Freo.
As Rossy Lyons says," Anyone, anywhere, anytime. " I don`t think they give a rats about what they are going to wear. They`re in the GF..........

Plus, what`s all this hatred for Ballantyne & Crowley?? They are super players who get under the skin of the opposition. I`d love them in the Swannies big time. BTW, in our house we call Ballantyne (Mighty Mouse). It`s hillarious, Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooo Mighty Mouse..

The reason for Freo wearing white shorts was a decision that the purple shorts clash with the brown shorts.
Dunno about you guys, but the purple guernsey with white shorts would look terrible, which I think is why Freo decided to go all white.

Could the all white decision be to do with seeing their team mates better with a background of purple and yellow/brown in the crowd. I know players probably aren't too distracted by the crowd but white is certainly the colour which stands out best, other than the lime green umpires!
