On the one hand with big Josh around our midfielders need less of the lion hearted Mummy's bullocking second efforts than the GWS infants.
On the other I am not happy about losing such a great character from the team, and i am also a million miles from being thrilled with relying on Kurt as our second ruck,
So mixed feelings, and while I shall remain a "loyal Swans member" as it says on
my hat i shall attended a few Giants games next season to cheer him on.

I suspect that Giles and Mummy will give our rucks a monumental (and frankly well deserved) seeing-to when we play the Giants next season.

You've hit the nail on the head there Ruckman with how I'm feeling about the whole Buddy saga.
I trust the club implicitly and whilst the length of the contract seems absurdly long, I trust Ireland and co to know what they are doing, they have hardly put a foot wrong with whom they have brought to the club in recent times, but losing Mummy hurts. He and Joshie P have been two of my favourites over the past few years and I just love everything about Mummy, his on field competitiveness and his off field warmth and humour. Had the joy a few years ago of having him at our table on trivia night and whilst he never answered many questions, he certainly gave us all a laugh or ten!
I also worry about Tipps in the ruck. I have been a Tippett fan pretty much since he first came on the scene at The Crows and think he played some of his best football from the ruck, but his recent troubles with concussion have me worried about putting him back in there.
Anyway, I am and always will be a loyal Swans member first and foremost, but I think I might invest in a GWS membership next year so I can still support my Mummy.

Mummy put in a great 4 years for the Swans. There's been quite a few changes in that time, including a new head coach. Every time I hear Horse use the term 'genuine pace' I get the feeling that the Swans are in a transition from a bollocking defensive team to a quick attacking team. We went from having a series of makeshift forward lines to the best 1 - 2 punch in the comp. We now have athletic speedsters like Jetta, Rowan and Franklin. Add Cunningham and the Jack brothers to that. We are a very different team from the Roos days. I don't think Mummy is the kind of player that fits into that sort of game plan and feel that we would have ended up playing one recognised ruckman anyway.

Mummy going to GWS is the best for everyone. I think he will do them a world of good.

Yeah, I can imagine he was pretty ticked off over the last few months wondering why the Swans were stonewalling. He was definitely a favourite of mine and I loved his partnership with Pyke - talk about the odd couple. He'll be great for GWS,.

Yes, he will be missed - both as a player and as a personality. But do you think that the Swans would have knocked him back if he'd accepted the renewal contract we offered?

No matter what, we were too rich in the ruck stocks, and Mummyboy has had more injuries than some others, so what do you do!

Given that he does break, you couldn't give him a big contract under the circumstances, not with Neismith coming through the ranks as well. I think it was always a management thing, and they must have been relieved that hard decisions did NOT have to be made about his future with us. As much as well all love the big fella, and he is such a good and committed player, still there was a level of uncertainty, you have to admit.

I wouldn't say we were rich in the Rick stocks before, because after mummy's departure id say we are more than a little thin. We have One recognized ruckman who plays his best football as a second ruck / forward ( but extremely good in this role ). Two injuries to big men and were up that famous creek, even losing 1 big man will still force us to play a makeshift or under developed ruckman in support of either Pyke or Tippett.

A PykeTippett ruck combo is a good one when you take their rucking, marking and goal kicking into account of a total picture. The question is how good should your backup ruckman be? Not too many top quality ruckmen will want to play in the reserves waiting for an injury to get a chance to play senior footy. We are not the only ones faced with this dilemma, which is why you see so many #2 ruckmen looking to move each year.

the way i look at it is that Pyke and LRT both came into the Snr team when we probably thought that anything could happen. It could be a disaster or it may just work

I do like what I see with Sam Naismith and I think if we were stuck with injuries to Pyke or Tippett that Sam could fill in some mins and do it well - if not then LRT you the man !
