Renouf, while being talented, is an injury on legs. He hardly played for Port last season and this has been the story of his career. My nephew is a Hawks member and he told me years ago that Brent was totally injury prone and his knees and ankles were dodgy. So definite NO!

Ugg what do you think about taking a rookie punt on Cameron Conlon. He is 198cm and was a hot prospect before spending 18 months out with an injury. As a rookie prospect I would think him a bargain as if he ends up on the perennially injured list like Renouf then we can just delist him but if his body comes good he would be sensational.

Also do you think big Sammy might be almost ready after another good preseason? I think he will. Her started to show a lot during the NEAFL finals. Some of his tap work and around the ground marking, agility and second efforts were super. His ability to go forward and take the big pack mark in the goal square is advantageous too. What do you think?

It's worth a look at Emma Quayle's club by club pre-draft analysis:

It is interesting to see how lightly manned so many ruck divisions are. In fact, if Tippett were classified as a ruckman, we would have one of the stronger ruck divisions going around. The question with the Swans concerns the strength of our backup for Mike Pyke, not so much the numbers of ruckmen that we have on our list.

I still see our best option as drafting Mark Seaby at pick 53, as this most closely fits our actual requirements for 2014. He is the near perfect depth ruckman, almost good enough to be a number one ruckman, but not quite.

I am not against drafting another younger ruckman. If the Swans' brain-trust take Rory Lobb at pick 15, I can only assume that they think he's going to be the next Dean Cox; I'm fine with that. Otherwise, I wouldn't be looking at a ruckman before pick 44. Darcy Cameron and the Tasmanian Nankervis look to be good young prospects. Ben Brown is another more in the ruck/forward mould.

Maybe the swans don,t needed the best ruckman but the best mid field sharks.

Swans Josh Kennedy is the best mid field shark in the business when it comes to feeding off the opposition's ruckman.

The poster is on the wall.

That's a very instructive article that you found and worth digesting before we panic about our ruck situation.

There are a few things worth noting:

              1. Of the top 10 tap ruckmen, none were from top 4 teams.
              2. Mike Pyke to JK was the 3rd best tap combo in the league, giving you some indication as to Pyke's ability as a tap ruckman.
              3. No sign of Mummy on the list. Although he missed 3 games to the time of the article, he still could not manage even 8 hitouts to JK compared to Pyke's 30. That gives you some indication of their ranking within the team. I've said many times that I thought Pyke was a better tap ruckman than Mummy.
              4. Despite having 2 top ruckman last year, we still had 2 of the top 4 midfield sharks as well. So there's a lot more to the ruck contest than just having a great ruckman.

Mike Pyke played all 25 games last year. Anyone can get injured, but you wouldn't say he's injury prone. Tippett has the size and athleticism to be quite a good ruckman. Although never a 1st ruckman at AFL level, he's had plenty of experience as the number 2 and has done quite well. And we shouldn't forget that our Mister Everything, LRT, will be back next year, and is more than an adequate replacement if we are in a pinch.

And what is David Hille doing next year? He's only 32 yo.

Mumford is less a tap ruckman but his main asset is his ability to create space for our midfielders and his second efforts.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

25yo left handed ruckman from Coburg Tigers. Delisted by Richmond. Can ruck. Can play forward and kick goals. But has had plenty of opportunities, and never looked better than ordinary. Would be a surprise pick.

YOUi (ie cheap) insurance in case Pyke, Tippett, Naismith, LRT, Mitchell (heck, even the smaller Mitchell too) all go down & we run out of ruck options until we can sign someone better next year

Don't worry, Richmond never had Steve Taubert ... the Ruck Whisperer will turn 201cm Derickx into the next Wil Minson - but with a 2cm height advantage

A good pick up - he'd shown some promise for the Tigers in some preseason matches but never kicked on. In terms of ruck insurance it's a good move - he'd be more capable of doing ok if called upon for a game or two than our rookies at this stage.

Hope we now pick a solid defender with our first pick....

Beat me to it. First thing I thought. Steve Taubert I mean.

The combination of accents over 200cm could develop into a secret code!

Another fine advantage is that he is a good looking man. That's me happy. Shallow but happy
