Biggs - what the heck gives?

I for one thought this guy showed a lot in the three games he played - certainly he's a gamble far more likely to pay off than some dreg from the draft. Has our club stuffed it completely or is there some way we can still keep him? My understanding is that we can't keep him on the rookie list, so what do we do?

when the following 9 players are all fighting for a spot ahead of Biggs it makes it very difficult for him to jump ahead and if you add Macca into the HBF rotation that makes 10 players !

      LRT
      Rampe
      AJ
      Shaw
      Smithy
      Ted
      Mal
      Grundy
      Laidler

Long time since I posted here but Biggs can be retained as a third year rookie. One third year rookie per club can be organised as a rookie draft pre select.

Yep. As has already been posted many times in recent weeks in response to others' angst over his situation. Not quite sure where that angst has been coming from. The third year rookie rule was introduced several years ago now.

Correct me if I am wrong but when the AFL finalised the draft order on Monday the Swans final two selections are listed as

              80. Sydney Swans (To be used for rookie elevation)
              90. Sydney Swans (To be used for rookie elevation)

Would this not indicate that two players will be promoted to the senior list from the rookie list on Thursday? I would expect that to be Biggs & Xavier

No, the Swans have already announced that Jack and Rampe are to be elevated. No mention of any other rookies that they have plans to elevate.

Ok, thanks. It's confusing when the AFL, the club and the media all refer to B.Jack & Rampe as now officially on the senior list (see all final list lodgement stories). I did not realise this was still not finalised and official until draft day.

Thanks - I must have missed that. I'm pleased there is some hope.

I actually think his end of year performances warranted an upgrade to the senior list. Interesting that one snippet over the trade period had the Bulldogs interested in him, I would have thought if he had a senior spot on offer at another club, he would have taken it

With the rules being so relaxed nowadays around rookie elevations, it is almost just an extension of the senior list anyway. We managed to find a way for 4 rookies to get a game this year, so if Biggs is banging down the door for a senior game next season we'll find a way to get him upgraded. With a similar season to the one just past, I have little doubt he will be promoted next year with somebody like X taking the single third year spot.

I think Shane wants to learn his footy at a top club. Getting a game at the Bullies would be good for the ego but not much for his footy development. Let's face it he is being mentored by some of the best backmen in the game. He is a nice kid and his parents are very nice and humble people. He has a loyalty to our club for picking him in the rookie draft and is proving a good prospect. If when the time comes next year we don't upgrade him I think he will be very disappointed as he is hoping to have a career with the Swans. I believe if he shows as much as he did this year there won't be a problem with an upgrade. By the way I have a feeling he is being groomed as a replacement for Mal when he retires. In the meantime he will play a number of roles and get some senior game time. We still have a few players on the long term injury list so I can see him getting early game time against some of the weaker clubs.

Why are swans fans on here and on that other side questioning every single day what our football dept are doing? I mean we have the best football dept in the land and people are still paranoid because their favourite player who just didn't impress the people who's job it is to list mange got de-listed or not offered a new gig. It's being bloody selfish.

It's the same as withe daily concerns about Lance ruining our "bloods" culture. Give it a rest and trust the people who are doing a fantastic job making us the envy of all clubs.
