2013 in review: Harry Cunningham - sydneyswans.com.au

i think coming to the Swans was maybe a wake up call for Harry......i have observed a massive change in attitude over the last 12months and he is still only 19yrs of age !!

even the video link above is a serious young man rather then a knock about cracking jokes teenager

my family down in Wagga have watched Harry play a fair bit of footy as he was growing up and they said he was one of the best small forward / midfielders they have watched for many years down in the country

their comments were that his ability to play off both feet, his acceleration, his decision making and above all his ability to nail freaky goals from long range was a pleasure to watch and he had AFL AFL AFL all about him thru his teenage years

so where to from here ?- the kid is a serious talent......a very promising small forward who will need to go to that next level in fitness to make the midfield / forward rotation ..........he and BJ appeared to make it very difficult for Jed to stay especially when Jed was offered a big increase in $

Life in footy can be little moments of good fortune ie your fellow competitors for your spot maybe out for a few weeks with injuries.........you have a injury free pre season and you feature heavily in a few games in a row and the next thing you know it is round 22 and you have been in the team for 15 games straight........

I wonder if injuries fall his way just how far he can progress in 2014 ?

I also wonder if the Swans would benefit from having to genuine small nimble forwards like freeo had all season in Walters and Ballantyne.....both approx 175 to 178cm and create havoc in pressure and counter punch goals.........ie BJ and Harry must be knocking on the door

I see Harry and BJ as being two players have huge upside next year. Rampe exceeded expectations beyond belief and will do well to not suffer the old second season syndrome. Rohan with a full pre-season is another scary prospect

I'd also like to see Membrey take the next step next year.

Not sure about Harry, no doubt this is the year he needs to grab a role for himself but the role looks to have a few in line before him? I can only see him getting a game if we had 2 - 3 injuries I think BJ has more upside.

i think Harry's role is as a winger. He seems to me to be the old fashioned winger, fast, good penetrating kick, good tackle and defensive game, good decision maker. He is not a forward. Forwards; Rohan, Reid, Buddy, Tip, Benny, BJ,Goodsie, ROK, Membrey, Towers. I think he is being groomed as the other side of the Jetstar equation. In other words the two lightening fast outrunners. Hannas is being groomed to take over from ROK in the mids as an inside/outside mid.

I think Harry will have a breakout year next season. He started to show what he was capable of in the last few games he played. He was pretty good against Eagles when he came on too.

Hanns is a long way in front of O'Keefe. He's already been groomed as his own man. Job complete.

Ryano will play mainly forward this year I believe. A return to his former role as HF. That frees up Hannas to officially take the mid position vacated by him. Harry onto the wing is a natural progression due to his, height, speed and great delivery.

Reminds me of the regular change to David Campese's entry in Wikipedia. "One of the greatest wingers ever to play the game." For a while the word "winger" was repeatedly edited to add an "h".
