AFL Supercoach Locks, Considerations & Smokies

If you are like me and love your AFL Supercoach (and Dreamteam), you already have your 1st of 450 versions of your team. I can?t wait for the NAB cup to start to get a look at our rookies. What Swan?s players do feel are a Lock, others that you are considering and what smokie rookies are going to make you the cash. FWIW

    LOCKS
    McVeigh
Now with DPP will be one of the most selected players in the backline. Wether playing in the quarterback position or on the ball, he will be racking up the possessions.

    Franklin
For me, he will be given a similar role to Goodesy. Play where ever you want. Predicting a 110 avg. Starting at a lower price than previous years due to a below par 2013.

    Rohan
Rookie priced who will be in Swans best 22. Not many other rookies are guaranteed that. May only average 60 ? 70, but will be a cash cow or a keep as F7.

    CONSIDERING
    Laidler
Nice price. Will be monitoring NAB cup form. If he gets a game early and makes the most of his opportunity I could see averaging 70 and becoming a nice D5/6.

    Kennedy
Fantasy gun. Had a slightly down year last year. Not sure if that is because of the emergence of other Swan midfielder and he didn?t have to do it all himself or whtehr and was carrying an injury.

    Jack, K
Another gun fantasy scorer. Will his average continue to climb into the elite 120 avg. I think so.

    Tom Mitchell
Awkwardly priced at that mid 400K. But has plenty of upside as he plays on the ball and can score goals as well.

    Mike Pyke
With the reduced interchange numbers, ruckmen will be rested forward more. Goal kicking ruckman could be a huge scorer this year.

Other considerations Parker, Jetta & Johnson

    SMOKIE ROOKIES
    Cunningham
Has popped up on the radar due to some good form in the intra-club matches. Buddy has been giving good wraps.

    Naismith/Nankervis
Will be interesting to see these two young bulls fight it out for the Swans R2 spot. Whether that translates to game time I am not too sure. Could be a handy bench player.

Others I?m watching during the NAB cup, Marsh, BJ, Towers, Membrey

I'm a rookie in Supercoach, but as far as AFL fantasy goes, I can't go past Mitchell. When he was fresh last year he racked up some huge numbers. I also think Pyke will rise in stocks as our no 1 ruckman, but I had to pass him over for Grundy and Sandilands, purely in price. I'll be watching him closely though. Not convinced on Buddy. He has huge value to Longmire as a decoy when you've got options like Tippett, Rohan, Jetta and McGlynn to play with. He'll win us games, but not by racking up big DT scores.

P.s. I wouldn't be too upset if Buddy just dominates and proves me totally wrong.

I've got Harry C in my AFL Fantasy team. But shhhh - not too many people will have him on their radars and I reckon he'll go alright this year.

Thanks for the list too - great work and some food for thought there.

Reckon we only played the two ruckmen Mummy and Pyke last year because they were too good to play NEAFL. That's not the case this year so we'll do what most teams do and only play one ruckman with in game back from Tippett or LRT. On that basis Pyke will get more game time than last year and will iprove his footy too - awesome!

Mitchell is pricey but the kid is a gun and will play a lot more midfied time this year after last year having a much delayed start.

Rohan is a lock I reckon as is McVeigh on last years form and back in the midfield.

Buddy, well we are either going to cotton wool him until the finals when it really matters or we will let him run amok all season. Nicely priced.

Laidler is just injury insurance I reckon.

Like all teams we need to see who shines in the preseason comp, anyone could stick up their hand for R1 or probables could drop away. One thing you can be sure of is watching the R! team announcements very closely to make last minute changes!

i just have to say that Tom Mitchell is a freak......i thought Luke Parker was a special but Tom is at another level in the cardio department

we are absolutely blessed to have Parker and Mitchell to come in and replace the work ethic of our Boltons, ROK's and Mcveighs

if any "young one" can impose himself on a game thru possessions its this kid and what better game plan then the Swans for him to evolve to a whole new level

he has see ball get ball DNA, but in the good way because he can execute too and doesnt rush in tunnel vision style..........plus the kid has busted/injured for the last few seasons pre draft and post..........and then he comes in halfway thru 2013 and lights up the track..........and then again comes back in pre season post operation and first 3km run he wasnt far off the pace amazingly and kills it with a PB

i just dont know how far he could go ?

In a team like ours and in our contested footy first approach he will rise up again in 2014 !!!!

The one thing I wish for Tom this season is that he kicks straight.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Amen...quite possibly the worst mid-sized kick for goal in the entire afl :-(

Seems a little harsh. Without going back and rewatching games (recently), my recollection is that from a set shot he was pretty reasonable last year. His poor goals / behinds ratio reflects the fact he got into the habit of taking pings at goal where he was in a poor position to do so and/or didn't take the time to steady and balance himself. Both his decision making (to assist the first issue) and his understanding of how much time he has (to address the second) are things that should naturally improve with experience.

The only thing I want for this kid is an injury free year. That Achilles injury was bad and hopefully it is behind him.

Word from inside the Swans camp is McGlynn is in ripper touch. I'm not playing this year but if I was I'd have him locked in.

I'd steer clear of Mitchell, too much hype and he'll be under increased opposition scrutiny this year. Perfect conditions for the "second year blues".
Officially on the Reid and Sumner bandwagon!
