Does not look good for the big fella. I think he had the respect of the coaching staff, so it's probably up to him.
My money's on Naismith.
I agree that it will probably be Naismith, due to Tippett being injured for the first couple of rounds of the season and Mike Pyke being on lite duties. There may be some games early in the year where our ruck division will be two from Toby N, Naismith and Tom Der with LRT for some back up.
May be nice to upgrade Lloyd Perris given the heated battle for his signature last year! People say that Jack Lloyd has been doing well for a while and may be deserving. Shane Biggs player some solid games last year.
A few of those guys will be dissapointed when the Swans announce who they want to upgrade!
Is it a new injury? or is he still on the way back/delayed from the last year? If so isn't it just a prudent move to allow flexibility on the playing list? he'd be available to bring back on to main list as of round 4?

I would say this is on the ball. When a player is placed on the LTIL it has to be for a minimum of 8 weeks. A rookie can be elevated at any time while a player is on the LTIL (or not at all). By listing him now, with still a month or so to go until the season starts, the club is giving itself the opportunity of playing one of the rookies if their pre-season match form warrants it but isn't committing to whether to do so, or to who. And it means that Walsh can be put back onto the available list a month or so into the season, at which point he becomes available to play reserve grade.
Liz is right. In the press conference Longmire said, "It's touch and go, we've got to have him on there for eight weeks, that's why we have done it now, he should be.......about round four."
That implies that they know he wont be ready to play a game until round four at the earliest and if they place him on the long term injury list for eight weeks, they can promote a rookie replacement during this time if required. If they don't place him on the list now they don't have any option to promote a player in the first few weeks of the season unless there is another injury. I guess its an open incentive to the rookies to get a spot in rounds one to four.
Wouldn't be surprise if he's packed it in and this way we can replace him on the list.
He's definitely injured. It was a very serious double 'off the bone' Hamstring tendon tear which had to be surgically repaired. Many players never come back from that serious an injury as they cannot regain the muscle strength. I thought at the outset that the odds were against him and still do. I think Tommy would like to crack the AFL and will give it one last shot; it's possible, but he is certainly facing an uphill battle.
In his past interviews he seemed to want to remain a professional footballer and stay in Sydney if he could, even the ones his did for the Irish news.
Injury payments are outside the salary cap is the most obvious reason
You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby Ziegler
