Derrickx offered reprimand - should he accept?

    From Swans web site

"Tom Derickx, Sydney Swans, has been charged with a Level One Engaging in Rough Conduct Offence (125 demerit points, one-match sanction) for engaging in rough conduct against Scott Pendlebury, Collingwood, during the second quarter of the Round Two match between the Sydney Swans and Collingwood, at ANZ Stadium on Saturday March 29, 2014.

In summary, he can accept a reprimand and 93.75 demerit points towards his future record with an early plea."

What do people think. I think he should not accept the reprimand. If I understand the system correctly if he doesn't accept the early plea and the penalty stays at 125 demerit points he will serve his one week suspension (no great loss as he may not have been picked anyway) and then he will be left with 25 residual points instead of 93.75 residual points if he does accept the early plea. Gives the club more options later in the year.

What do others think? Do I understand correctly?

It's a tough decision for him and the club. If he fights the charge and is unsuccessful it will rule him out of Brownlow contention....
Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09

Cheap shot from Derrickx, should take his medicine and count himself lucky.

I agree it was a cheap shot. I mean I think they should seriously think about contesting it not to reduce it but so he is forced to take the week suspension thereby leaving him with only 25 residual points

Well Derickx has accepted his reprimand. An interesting side show but I still wouldn't play him next week. It's Naismith for me

This is second hand info (no source, maybe from Champion data), but it's been posted that Derickx only had one hitout to advantage out of his 20 hitouts. We would have been far better off not competing in ruck contests at all than having Derickx in. I posted on another thread that it was my impression that his ruckwork was aimless.

I can see the reason that he only played 2 games in 3 years at Richmond. I would play Paddy Mitchell before him.

5% of hit outs to advantage? I'd play TOM Mitchell in the ruck before him!

TOM Mitchell?! We need him to develop as a midfielder ... end of the season, trade Derickx for a last round pick & use that to draft BARRY Mitchell as a mature aged Rookie - at absolute worst he'll only have 5% fewer hitouts to advantage & have a much smaller contract as a rookie (maybe we could afford to lure Mummy back with the extra cap space that would free up?)

Lucky we had Torture Chambers, or Tom could be headed for Legend status.

Surely there's some leeway to be afforded to a ruckman playing their first proper game with a new midfield as far as their HTA%? Obviously a dominant ruckman may rack up plenty of HTA in their first outing, but Tom isn't that now (you never know, he may become one) and on top of talent a lot of HTA seems to come down to having a connection with your midfield.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

not just that, but I have a very clear recollection that grundy towelled up both ruckmen in a game at anz stadium less than 12 months ago. One of them was a bloke by the name of mumford who is said to be the missing link for a swans side that is playing poorly. Justsayin.

Can someone explain how the stats are worked out please? Is a 'Hit Out to advantage' simply getting it to one of your own players or actually getting it to a player who then gets the ball clear?
I am one of those people who still struggles with stats. Sometimes they make a player look good and sometimes bad.
