Just spotted that Paul Kelly's son Jackson made his senior debut for Wagga Tigers on the weekend.

Interesting that he did not make the RAMs but lets remember his Dad was listed as low skills when he came to the Swans. There are three Kelly boys with Jackson the oldest.

I wish all swans players had boys like Kelly has had. He's truly a great servant of the club.

I guess Plugger will struggle to win any 'clubman' awards for the same reason...lol

I just checked, Wagga lost 58-50 but Jackson was listed in the best.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

Positive signs. The article also mentions he was close to BOG in a practice match against Corowa Rutherglen, which is Horse's old side.

Corowa Rutherglen are much improved in the strong Ovens & Murray League this season.

I don't understand why he wasn't listed by the Murray Bushrangers. Too young?

Oh dear god am I that old? I remember when he was born. Hope he sneaks under the radar a bit. Otherwise it will be a case of Unacceptably Great Expectations!

Yeah Primmy, that is always the case with sons of former greats. Gary Ablett jnr is the standout for sons of former greats making it. Jobe Watson is another, but not many others that I can think of.

I remember the massive expectation placed on Ted Whitten jnr by the bulldogs faithful, and he just couldn't handle it. He was a reasonable player in his own right, but being the son of Ted it was just expected that he would be as good. Of course he wasn't. Same could be said of Paul Hudson when he arrived at Hawthorn. I remember Richmond supporters deriding David Bourke virtually on masse one day at Etihad, the comment "your not as good as your father" was very common. It really is a tough cross to carry, and from what I've seen there aren't too many of them that make it.

We (meaning the footballing public collective) place so much higher expectation on the son of a former player, and if he happens to be the son of a former superstar, the expectations are multiplied tenfold. These guys are on a hiding to nothing unless they have football ability equal to or better than their famous fathers. Maybe thats why the Jack boys have chosen AFL over Rugby League.

I hope Jackson and all of the Kelly boys make it, not because they are PK's sons but because it is their dream to play in the AFL.

Josh Kennedy...Not sure his dad was 'a great', but given his father and grandfathers' achievements, he had big shoes to fill....And fill them he has!

just left a message with my two young brothers who play for CAK !

They rated Harry Cunningham very highly a few years ago..........they said young harry was just so sharp on both left and right foot when coming off the wing and setting up his forwards

They didnt doubt Harry would make it on the wing or flank at AFL level

I've seen Jackson play and he is in the inital NSW/ACT Rams squad. At this point in time he is very small but he is talented.
Also in regards to why the isn't in the Murray Bushrangers squad is that he lives in Wagga. There are a couple of Wagga boys in the Bushrangers squad this year but they have moved to Albury to do so.
