This year is the first time in over 10 years that the Dees are worth tuning in to. It was a win full of spirit from the' Red and the Blues', really enjoyed it.
I loved almost everything about Paul Roos. The thing I loved the most about him post-coaching and still do is that he's extremely swans-biased when commentating and it pisses the supporters of other clubs off. Love it.

The only thing I'm slightly critical of with him is that he's too logically-minded and never does anything with raw emotion. "Here it is" was a great moment... but it was obviously prepared and the more I watch it it seems a little phony. Although, it's also one of his strengths. For example, I'm sure it gave the team a boost of confidence when they looked at Paul and saw how happily calm he was when the situation looked bleak.

I suspect that George Stone as the Demons ' Midfield and Strategy Coach has also made a big difference to Melbourne. Smart recruitment to resume his partnership with Roos.

        I tipped melbourne this week.
Roos is a great coach when a team needs to be picked up from the bottom of the pile.
After he's finished at Melbourne, he can go Brisbane; then to Essendon...

Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Just watched Roosy on AFL 360 tonight, his usual humble and unflappable self. You get the impression the job has only just started there but he is satisfied with the progress made. They've got a tough little run coming up - Port, Collingwood, Bombers then North. One win and three competitive efforts would be a good result there

Loved his onliner about whether Gary Ablett would win this years Brownlow "22 best on grounds this year should win it"

I think the professional distance Roosy has put between himself and Sydney only goes to show how good he is at what he does. Contrast that with media types who openly wear their allegiances on their sleeves as badges of honour rather than displays of a lack of professionalism.

Great thread but it may be better place in the General Footy section btw.

I love Roosy. What I love most about him is how he isn't arrogant at all to the media even when they ask questions he might not agree with. He always treats everyone the same and not try to be portrayed as some hard edged coach ala Malthouse, Clarkson, and has some decency towards people.

Also the fact he has a family with two kids must keep his feet on the ground. Great bloke aswell.
LRT. Lord Roberts-Thompson. He may look like the Munster, but looks can be deceiving.

I remember when Rhyce Shaw came to Sydney he was amazed that Roos personally met him at the airport. He's clearly got the Dees players playing for him already. Plus some smart recruiting - add Vincent and Cross and Dyson to Jones and Viney and you've got a decent midfield.

Article re Roos' coaching future with the Demons (can they persuade him to stay for a third or even fourth year)? But also includes one interesting name as a possible assistant to be groomed to be his replacement.

"Plans remain in place to have the next Melbourne coach on the club's books and working closely with Roos as soon as September this year.

It is a sound plan, and Brett Kirk, John Worsfold and Cameron Ling will be among those seriously considered for the role."

I think the trade of pick 2 for Tyson (and the associated upgrade which got them Salem) has Roos fingerprints all over it and partly shows why he's been able to improve them so much. For too long, Melbourne have been looking for a superstar to save them. Roos understands that success is not built on one or two superstars, but on 40 blokes of average or above average ability who work as a team and bust their guts each week.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that they cleaned out the CEO, most of the board and half the football department. That was at least half the problem.
