I'm not that tech savy to put a link here but I was just scrolling through my Facebook wall and saw a post that was horrible for us swans fans! The page is called AFL Trade Rumours, Draft & Offseason News. It has a nice write up on our Tim Membrey, talking about his style and good year so far without opportunity at the swans and even has the audacity to place him in a Carlton jumper! I for one would love to see him get his chance (this week hopefully) and if he can perform like many on here think am hoping we sign him up as our replacement for the great Adam Goodes going forward!
Facebook Page suggesting possible Membrey trade!

Here the link. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...type=1&theater
It's probably just speculation they decided to write based on the 3 teams needs. He will gather plenty of interest if he doesn't re-sign... I hope he stays, he should surely get plenty of opportunity in the coming years if he performs well.Using Tapatalk -
Yes. Thanks for adding the link. I see in it they compare him to Jack Darling and Gunston but as I agree he's a similar type of player, Darling is listed at191cm and Gunston 193, hence the reason why Tim probably slipped to us in the draft in the first place! Still would love to see what he has to offer at senior level though as him being the 3rd or 4th option for opposition defenders with our current forwards he could cause some problems!Comment

No different from posters on RWO deciding that because Tom Mitchell has missed six or seven games, half of them through injury, then he'll be looking for another club.
Plus, if you look at the high draft picks we've traded, like Lewis Johnston and Veszpremi, they haven't been great losses. The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible newsComment

Looking at our current talent I see Tim as Adam's successor in the third forward role (I'm not counting Sam here). I suspect the main reason he has been kept in the ressies so far is that the coaches think he needs to expand his repertoire. He is already a fine lead and mark forward with a better goal radar than most, and has been named best on ground for the last two weeks running, but the coaches want him to (a) build his aerobic capacity, (b) develop his defensive skills, and (c) get a feel of life in the middle. Going on Crouchie's remarks and the feedback from ressie watchers, my impression is that Tim is making good progress in all these areas.
We come to the crunch. I think this is Adam's last year. He can at times display the skill and power that have made him such a feared opponent over the years, but while his positional play is as sharp as ever he seems to me to have lost a bit of pace and his kicking lacks the distance he once had. He can still be a very damaging player forward, mopping up in defence (occasionally) and in the middle, but Father Time is catching up with him and his bursts, while still immensely valuable at times, are not as frequent as they once were. I think it would be tragic if he tried to play on next year with gradually fading powers and increased risk of injury, unless he is prepared to take on the kind of role ROK has at present. I believe we need to get moving on the transition to retirement, and the next few weeks offer a golden opportunity.
In short, as far as Tim is concerned, it's time.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

I just think that most defenders are not to scared of defending against a slow (yet strong) 188cm forward. Now a 189cm fast forward like Rohan (when in good form) is a difficult matchup because Rohan is super quick and plays very tall and equally has a great kick at goal.
If for example Laidler is our third tall i think Jeremy would find it fairly easy to spoil Tim all day long..........and there are a lot better 3rd tall defenders in the comp then Laidler.
We cant be leaving a Tim Membrey in the goal square often because that means our other two TALL forwards are having to do all the work outside the 50m arc. Works well enough for Buddy but not Tippett.
I think the logical swap is for a dominant emerging defender.
I think that if we had to pick between Rohan and Membrey I would keep Rohan.............difficult if both want to return to Vic for opportunities though as Sam Reid is in front of them when Goodes retires also"be tough, only when it gets tough"

I meant to say that Membrey reminded from day one of a young Daniel Bradshaw - only problem for Tim is that Big Guns was a 191cm and that does make a significant difference.
It would be hard to argue if Bradshaw and Fev were 188cm instead of 191cm that they would have had the same impact in their forward roles"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Keep in mind there are five Melboune Clubs (Melbourne, Carlton, Richmond and St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs) who are still in contention for the Wooden Spoon.
The Wooden Spoon winner gets the first pick in the Pre-Season Draft. All those clubs would highly value an extra forward of Membrey's potential. He could fall through the Preseason Draft for no compensation (Jed Lamb). If the Wooden Spoon fell to Brisbane or the Giants, I don?t think Membrey would be as motivated to move to those clubs as he would be to a Melbourne Club.
He needs a couple of senior games this year to feel that he has a big role to play in the Swans future. If you can train him properly I see him with his big body becoming a Josh Kennedy type on midfield rotation.Comment
