Will it be as smooth as Roos/Longmire or as rocky as Hawke/Keating?
I think John Longmire will be a senior coach for a very long time. I don?t see Longmire becoming a media pundit (although Malhouse did it for a year). I think he is a natural coach and a natural administrator. He had a big administrative role on the player?s association before he became a coach.
Maybe Longmire could succeed Andrew Ireland as CEO after a couple more flags, with Stuart Dew moving into the Senior Coaching role.

I would like to see a Senior Coach in AFL transition into the clubs CEOs role. Maybe Longmire will be the first.

I saw Stewie at Phil Walsh's memorial yesterday (with Josh Francou?) as our representatives.
Very fitting as both are ex Port players. Not sure if Phil was there when they were though.

I think Stewie is in the running for the Carlton coaching job, but could this also put him in the running for the Adelaide job?

Phil was there when Port won the premiership in 2004, which I'm pretty sure both Dew and Francou played in?

Dew certainly did. I think it was in the middle of Francou's long injury layoff though.

Reckon given the circumstances that Adelaide may now look for a more senior person, not sure who that could be though given the best of those have been grabbed in the last three years, including Phil Walsh of course.

Stewie would have to be in the running for Carlton although the stand in is doing his chances no harm.

Agreed - Dew would have ti be in considerations, but I'd imagine Barker is the current front runner, he seems to have the backing of the players

Confirmation that Carlton have made their interest in Dew known, as well as Brendan Bolton
Stuart Dew, Brendon Bolton enter Carlton coaching race but John Barker still favourite

If Stuart Dew gets offered a senior coaches position he should take it and go with the blessing of the club.

I think it is an (unwritten) policy that if any assistant coach gets offered a senior position that they go even if they are under contract to their current club.
                    As it should be.

I've got a feeling that we've probably already told Dew he will be our next senior coach, within 2-3 years.

On the AFL website today quoting Stuey Dew

?I had an initial chat with Carlton, but I haven?t pursued that any further. I informed the club (the Swans) of that this week,? Dew told Fox Footy on Friday night.

?In terms of the Adelaide job, I haven?t heard anything"

Longmire has a background in player management so when Ireland eventually steps down Harley could step up into Irelands role and Longmire could take Harleys role and become Footy Manager and Dew becomes the coach - maybe too simplistic but works for me
