Subbing Grundy was a bonehead call. If we were going to sub off a defender (which we absolutely didn't need to do) it should have been Laidler.

I hope Horse gets a please explain at the presser.

Positives were mainly Rohan and Rampe. I think it's probably a good thing that the pressure of "the streak" is gone now. It's probably a good reminder about how painful it is to lose one you could have won.

Let's hope we have a strong run into the finals and get our revenge on the Hawks when it matters most.

First loss away from home this year. Positives, Hannebery will come back, Tippett will improve.

Basically we had quite a few senior players down on their regular output. Macca, Joey, Jack, Malceski, Ted. The hawks seemed to want it more. The positives though were the form of Goodes , Rohan, Reid ( some excellent tap work!) Rampe, and how about Towers' cameo! Not too upset about this one. Better to lose one now than in September

That was great footy - Rohan, Tippet, Franklin, McGlynn, Jetta, Cunningham, Pyke had great games. If those guys play like that when Ted, Nick, Jack and Kennedy are playing at their best the boys will be unstoppable!

              Something for Eddie.

Worst we have played in ages.

Missed too many set shots and too many tackles.

Oh well, we don't need to improve much if they are the next best!

McGlynn also worked his guts out while being a total sportsman.

Good news is Hawks were about full strength while we had Hannebery, Shaw and a Tippett underdone. Room for improvement.

we just seemed to take our foot off the pedal and look complacent for a bit during the third quarter. And thats all Hawthorn needed

                    What cost us (IMO)

                    Poor tackling.
Taking too long to dispose of the ball when receiving a handball, or playing on after a mark.
Moving the ball too quickly (and with poor decision making) when kicking from a stoppage.
Umpiring - when the game is under umpired (by recent standards) you notice all of the wrong decisions more.
Hannebery and Shaw. Say what you like about depth, but we need to be close to full strength to have a real show week in week out of beating the better sides.

I'd also like to say that I hate Brian Taylor a little bit more at the moment, and I doubted that was possible.

Oh well! Just goes to show Hawthorn are a pretty darned good side. So are we, though some of our better players had relatively down games today. The pressure really seemed to drop off after we got a comfortable lead early in the 3rd and they never really got it back.

Still, there were some positive. McGlynn was superb. Is still desperately hungry for that missing medal. Thought Rohan did some good things in defence. Another season or so down there and he could become a pretty valuable rebounder. Also thought Towers' few touches were a way ahead of his nervous first game. Goodes showed he's not done yet, and while Buddy's radar wasn't quite tuned up to start, he continued to show he can do things others can only dream about.

I thought the umpiring was okay. Two line ball calls were the Hill tackle/Roughhead goal and the Goodes mark near the end which would have been a 12 point turn around.

Oh well. Just that one flat spot in the third. No one running to create anything upfield. All it was.

Can't agree with this ... Hawks were minus Lake, Rioli and Sewell. I'd call the outs even for both sides.

Oh yeah. Rohan has found his spot and needs to be backed up by the club persisting with him. He played well tonight. He will have his bad days going forward, but I think he's found his mojo and just needs some backing with four quarters from the coaches.
