I thought Rioli was out for the season? You're right though. I guess, as others have mentioned, several of our key senior players had off nights, while theirs generally played well.

The two big positives for me were Rohan and Reid
They both impressed tonight and seem to be growing and developing into their roles

Worst we have played in ages.

Missed too many set shots and too many tackles.

Oh well, we don't need to improve much if they are the next best!
yep missed tackles hurt us for sure. When you are missing shots and missing tackles.... well you are giving the opposition a double whammy there. We deserved to lose. We looked flat too many times throughout the game fro 3/4 time onwards

I love Goodes goals , but gee he is a liability defensively they ran off him and around him all night - he puts those around him under a lot of pressure

Same number of scoring shots. Bad kicking cost us really.

Also shows what a home ground advantage the grand final venue is.

A very hard match by 2 very good teams that are close in ability?.a game that could have gone either way at various times of the match

Upsides were THE GUYS THAT STOOD UP ,albeit that some of our stars were a little quiet tonight.

Nothing to fear here for the finals

Not impressed with that Hawthorn bloke who wouldn't hand the ball back to Laidler, thinking he was part of their game plan?.grrrrrrr

We were beaten in the clearances. Especially in the center. Tackling and pressure was very poor. And just didn't run hard enough into space. Though we weren't far away. McGlynn was sensational. Buddy and Tippett were dangerous when ball was delivered quickly. Goodes was clever but weak in defence. Rohan is definitely more comfortable down back. Smith wasn't as bad as some are saying. Bruest is AA. The ruckman were terrible. Pyke?s tapwork was poor and did he take a single mark? Reid was very quiet. Bring back TD. Parker, cunningham, Rampe good.

I'm not too disappointed in the loss - it was close and we played ok for most of the match. We should win all remaining H&A games (depending on which Port team shows up, I guess) and I know it's superstition, but I would hate to go into finals on a long winning streak.

Agreed he was very solid back there. OTOH poor old Dane had one of his poorer nights.

                      Great game.

                      There were some positives tonight.

I thought Rampe was superb tonight. Rohan played well. His tackling, spoiling, pace and aggression was great. Was strong in the air as well. I would keep him in the Backline at the expense of Laidler when Shaw comes back.

Towers showed a lot out of the subs vest which was encouraging.

Nick Smith had a rare off night and we were not able to get enough goals outside of Franklin, Tippett and Goodes.

The game was too open and that suits the Hawks with there great ball usage. We need to set up more of a boundary line scrap with them next time. We failed to hit 90 tackles and that's because the game was too open.

Yeh it was really apparent tonight wasn't it? Not sure what the answer is.

Apparently not. Post match they said that he said he was indicating it wasn't touched to the umpire. Guess that makes Gibbo a bad sport for claiming touched? :-/

Disappointing to lose, but it was a finals style game of footy and im confident that we can beat them come finals time.

One of those games where a couple of 50/50 calls (well the first one wasnt to me for their goal just befor 3/4time - htb every day of the week!) that didnt go our way really hurt. We may get our payback come finals time.

I must comment on some of the flogs that follow the hawks though. I really don't appreciate dickheads like the one we got on the way out - who yelled something along the lines of (without us saying a word) '@@@@ off you @@@@ing cheaters' at me and my gf. We had had nothing to do with this fool all night (we were two bays across) - my better half has now vowed she will not attend another game involving them again. Really disappointing when im trying to get her to appreciate the game to have to put up with that sort of behaviour.

The fools next to us in p18 were pretty unbareable too with their comments about goodes - I was so suprised one of the petty minded, racist fools didnt say something bad enough to allow me to report him - I was very tempted.

Poor form hawthorn fans, I will take great pleasure if we finish them off in september.

yeah but Rampe wasn't baaaaad. He was just so so like a lot of players. Tonight's result, I wasn't happy with, but at the same time I was kinda meh....
It was funny game to watch. Normally watching a game I'm pensive and coiled up like a spring ready to release, but tonight I think I was kinda like the players... just so so. It was almost like it was round one and you are just wondering how your team will go.

We're still good. So long as we don't become complacent.
