    Bird signs

Swans sign big improver Craig Bird to new two-year deal - AFL.com.au.

Great news. Great player, quiet achiever !

Along with fellow quiet achiever, Laidler, who it seems is also inking a 2 year extension.

Might put paid to the minority here who occasionally agitate for Bird to not be included in the best 22.

Swans have made it clear where he stands in their planning.

Very pleased to hear that, and not in the least surprised.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Super news. He is so important to us, notwithstanding that not everyone on RWO gets that

Always had a soft spot for Birdie. Can't understand all the people on here looking for him to be dropped. I feel he has had a very good season. He had his moments early last year and was carrying an injury early this year. But other than that he has been and still is a sensational player.

I think we will lose Mal at the end of the year, especially if we win the big one.

I agree. I thought that his inside work was really strong on Friday, and that his hands were really clean.

A very important signature. I look forward to at least two more years from this fine player. Definitely in my Top 22 from the list. Probably top 12 on importance to the team structure IMHO because of consistency and the multiple roles he can play.

Great news about both players. Can never understand the negativity on this board toward Birdy, quiet achiever is the perfect description.

Agree. Great to see them both on board for another stint.

                          Excellent news - especially Craig.

Now I just want to hear that Mal will be a Swan for life. After all those years waiting for his knees to come right I want all the spoils.

I'll understand if he doesn't but I don't want to hear it.

Hasn't got a lot of love but also very happy about Laidler too. I sometimes completely forget he's only 25-years-old. Very solid defender and hopefully he continues to develop into a Teddy or Grundy replacement.

Correction: Laidler is only 24. He turns 25 tomorrow.

Birdy did not get given the number 14 for nothing. Alway been well regarded by Swans
