John Longmire Influence in AFL circles

Just read Caro's Friday article on Alistair Clarkson's influence in the AFL.

I was surprised how much influence John Longmire has had over the years.

No wonder Eddie wants Hawthorn on his side. Alistair is almost more powerful than Eddie himself and goes about it less abrasively.

Certainly does. And much more productively.

The growing influence of Alastair Clarkson
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

That's a good article. Maybe Alastair can also suggest that club presidents need similar training and accreditation requirements to those he is proposing for coaches. Really the president shares a lot of similar responsibilities for player welfare etc
