A hint that today's game was about nothing?

But looking forward to next week's match. The only thing better than beating the Tigers is beating them when they're making a last-minute finals dash.

      Well done guys.

Hope there are no injury problems.

Mitchell went ok, and he did a lot of grunt work in the packs.

I thought Shaw was pretty quiet and still had his roller skates on that cause him to slip over all the time. Higgs and Towers were ok nothing outstanding. Lloyd went ok - very good disposal and hard at the ball.

Be an interesting discussion next team selection as I am sure they donut want to take the Tigers too easy but would be wary of any niggles to key players.

I would like to see Reid play in defence next week. We need to get a bit more tall marking power down back so the ball doesn't come to ground quite so much. We were exposed today by the chaos ball, and have been for most of the year. Hawthorn look to be going into the finals with 4 talls: Roughhead, Gunston, Spangher and Hall. Rampe has been taking Gunston, but it will be tough to cover the other 3 with Ted and Reg. Rohan can play forward or on the wing. Cegler has been marking strongly as well.

If the Tigers bring back Vickery then they will have 3 decent tall forwards to defend against, so will be good practice for any eventual GF against the Hawks.

Tippett is probably our best ruckman. Good to see him in there again.

Mitchell was solid, but hard to say he's preferable to Bird.

Towers is starting to look a player.

Cunningham and Lloyd continue there good form and it's hard to see either getting dropped for the finals. One in likely to be the sub.

We did what we needed, plus a little more. I agree with the comment that we went to sleep once or twice.

And I warmly agree with the criticism of Pyke's passing the ball off when he should be kicking; that schemozzle nearly cost us a goal except the Doggie kicked a behind. I don't know why they do it because Pykey is actually a pretty decent kick. Crazy stuff.

My favourite play was the double slingshot goal: Jetts to Harry, Harry to Goodes. Smart work.

But we'll need to ramp it up next week.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I thought overall we were very good. The only thing I can point to is lapses in concentration in the second and parts of the third and last.

Towers was not bad in his defensive forward role. Not only did he keep their running backs in tow but kicked a goal. He has taken over from Harry allowing Harry to be much more attacking.

Biggs was wonderful on Griffen, who normally gets at least 30 disposals, he got 16. Biggs got 17, you'd have to say that was a win.

Pykie was great and Tip rucked very well when he was there.

Luke Parker is the best player in our team. I am not of the opinion that mids should always win the Brownlow but this bloke will surely win one one day.

Mitchell was pretty good if not a bit rusty.

I can't say the same for Rhyce, he was soundly beaten and gave up too many possies to their small to mid forwards. he seemed slow and most of his delivery was not too good. Out of sync he should have had some reserves time I think.

I thought we had some very good moments. Macca was good, Hannas form was encouraging.

I think we should start calling young Jakie Lloyd 'The Iceman' because of his beautiful composure in front of goals. Even in the match against Port when the game was on the line the lad went back and coolly slotted the goal. Well done young man you rock!!

Almost a couple of major clangers on the I/C bench.
I was watching as 2 players came off and Mitchell and, I think Shaw were coming on.
Mitchell took was about to take off after the first player came off not realising the player behind him had already done so.
He looked like a batsman about to be stumped trying to ground his back foot.

Some time later I heard another scream from the I/C steward as something else happened down there.

I also noticed after one of buddy's goals to the northern end, the first person he high-fived was Davo the runner.

                Good solid win today.
Got through unscathed which was good.
Got some good valuable game time into Mitchell who looked liked he had never been out of the team.

Towers had a good game today. He appears to be on the brink of landmark game. He does a lot of good things, but not brilliant, and sometimes dumb.

The performance also taught me a lot about next season.

I'm certain that Lloyd and Biggs will be rookie upgrades.

Shaw will retire. There are young small backs such as Jones or Biggs who need regular senior opportunities.

Goodes is showing enough speed and athletic ability to play in 2015.

                  Towers will earn another contact.

                  It's important to retain Pyke.

I also realized that I was at the wrong game today. On SEN on the way home, Terry Wallace said that Sam Reid played the game in the back line today. Boy did I feel a fool!

Yep heard that too. They actually asked how he went and Terry explained he was played in defence. How hard is to check who actually played , seriously ?

Towers was improved today, but I'm far from convinced by him yet.

Lloyd is a little belter of a player though, gee I like watching him go about his business. No doubt he will be getting a nice upgrade come the end of the year!

And what can we say about - Luke Parker - just keeps on getting better. A clear BOG today, and he is pumped for a huge role in our push for the flag!

Biggs played very well again - I hope he gets the contract he deserves, off if we can't offer it too him, another club picks him up. Really impressed by him again today.

As for Mitchell, I thought he was slow to get going, but did some really good stuff in the second half. A couple of great pieces of clearance skill at different moments - he really is at home at the bottom of the pack extracting it.

Concerned about the prospect of losing both Shaw and Malceski at the end of the year. Our stable back line is a big reason for the success we are currently having. Losing one would be tolerable - Biggs seems like the perfect replacement - but losing both at the same time would be far from ideal.

Fact is Shaw's best days seem to be behind him. He was slow today and a little bewildered. Not much better last week. He needs a really solid game next week to make it into the finals. I hope he can lift. He is a tough nut. You need 'em in the games that matter.
