AFL promises ANZ Stadium's surface to be ?sort of safe? - Titus O'Reily

AFL Football Operations Manager Mark Evans said he thought the chances of players getting injured were ?high, but not really, really high.?
?We say we take player safety very seriously and we?re committed to continue saying that,? said Mr Evans.
?That?s why we are taking immediate steps to make the surface sort of safe for the Sydney-Fremantle game.
?I?ve spoken to both clubs and assured them the surface would be safe-ish by Saturday.?
Swans Coach John Longmire said the proposed works on the ground made him a bit less worried.
?I guess it?s good they?re doing something. I mean, I sort of thought they?d do nothing, so this is better than that,? he said.
Fremantle Captain Matthew Pavlich said he and his teammates were really looking forward to the game and hopefully not getting injured.
?It makes perfect sense to me to play at the white elephant that is ANZ Stadium, instead of the iconic SCG,? he said.
?The SCG just lacks the terrible surface, poor atmosphere and inconvenience to get to, that ANZ has in spades.?
He's a legend Titus O'Reilly. A lot more entertaining than Damien Barrett and far more accurate. He has also posted an informative eyewitness account of the Collingwood fans' forum:

The key theme of his speech was that Collingwood were very well placed to challenge for a Premiership in the next few years and failure this year was all Sydney?s fault..

He carefully explained how the Swans and many interstate clubs had secret underground laboratories that used the DNA of great AFL players to create ?super footballers?.

Eddie said this was all the work of an anti-Collingwood group at the highest levels of power. This is why Adam Goodes was named Australian of the Year.

I have to admit, it was a pretty convincing argument.

Off topic I know but you'll have to admit it's better than the Hun.
The man who laughs has not yet heard the terrible news

Fox Sports tweeting that Heath Grundy left the track early and attached a photo of him pointing to his calf talking to Matt Cameron by the looks of it,

We'd really miss Heath if he can't play. He has had a terrific season as evidenced by the lack of complaints on RWO.

Team selection tonight is going to be a beauty. I can't wait to see the ins and outs. It could be full of shocks and surprises.

Given Freo's smaller forward line Grundy missing wouldn't be a massive omission especially with Biggs ready to step up.

Swans twitter just posted a picture of Kennedy at training and looking pretty happy about it which is great news.

Grundy out in general would be a massive blow, not only for this weekend but for the remainder of the finals series. Has been one of our most consistent players this season.

Lets just hope it's nothing but precautionary...for what it's worth I'm pretty sure Neroli is a Fremantle supporter so hopefully she's making something out of nothing!

Apparently Bird is training too which is also some good news, even though I think he's probably not going to play this week.

I think you'd have to say that Reg is our only "gorilla handler" defender and we'd really miss him if he didn't come up. Sammy could cover for him this week, but it would be a severe loss to carry into the rest of the finals. I don't think Tommy Walsh is ready, despite his improvement; who else is there?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

With Pavlich, Taberner and Clarke/Sandilands I'm not so sure about that.

Probably a media beat up but if so Reid to defence , Tippett to ruck with Pyke both swapping at full forward. Keep towers in maybe or try Membrey as another forward target.

Has he got an Adelaide 2012 in him?

Do you actually read any Swans news at all matt80, or just spend all your time coming up with fantasy trades, crazy rumours and oddball theories?

LRT was injured just before he announced his retirement call - there will be no Lazarus rising.
