Wow probably shouldn't be surprised with Mitchell out but I guess with Bird passing a test then they have gone with a side that's played for most of the year.

It just goes to show that Longmire will only play a maximum of three slower paced inside midfielders. Mitchell is unlucky but Longmire won't play four slower paced inside midfielders.

No, it's what troyjones said; Longmire is simply going with the regulars that got us to where we are as opposed to those that filled in while the regulars were injured.

Part of the thinking may have been that if we left Bird out for Mitchell, then if we won it would be hard to change the team for reasons other than injury. That would be a bit unfair for Bird, who has had a good season and deserves to be in the side.

Looks as Lloyd most likely to be the sub, even though he seems too good for the role now.

I wonder whether Bird might be the sub - share the work load between all the returning mids in what will be a fairly brutal game.

That's a kinda odd selection from Freo. Looks like they're going with three ruckmen (with Griffin) on what may be a wet deck.

Maybe Sandilands could be a late out? I've noticed he's been labouring a little over the last few rounds but just assumed that was because he's enormous.

Either that or they're going to play Clarke in defence. On Tippett maybe? I'm very confused.

You have to play Bird ahead of Mitchell - experience counts in finals, and people forget that Bird finishes in our B&F top ten every year (8th last year).

But I wouldn't assume that's the 22 that runs out on Saturday.

Freo trying to get a last minute father/son selection?

Bird appears to have made a miraculous recovery from a PCL. A PCL creates difficulty in turning. He is the most likely out. Most likely change would be Mitchell for him.

I agree I reckon that late change is more likely than not. Probably wanna give bird as long as possible to prove he's okay but I think bird is 50 50 at best

Just heard Freo's flight to Sydney tonight was cancelled. Ouch.

That is what I reckon. Mitchell in for Bird.

I thought it was strange too, considering that he's only played 2 games this year I think it is. Maybe there is a late change to come, and they are just trying to play mind games.

What it does is it says bird is the incumbent and allows them to pick him in later finals despite the performance of mitchell
