VFL Grand Final: Sydney Swans Reserves v Aspley Hornets

We had to cut three listed players to meet the limit of 15. Have to assume Laidler is ineligible and a bad sign for Dick's future.

    In: Dickson, Hadden, Hey
    Out: Dick, Laidler, P.Mitchell

    B: Davis, Walsh, Lockyer
    HB: Jones, X.Richards, Marsh
    C: B.Jack, Robinson, Biggs
    HF: Hewett, Membrey, Towers
    F: Hiscox, Nankervis, Heeney
    Foll: Naismith, O'Keefe, T.Mitchell

    Inter: Dickson, Hadden, Hey, Mills

Looks a good team. Be good for their Swans prospects if Davis and Hiscox have big games.

I would agree with your call about Dick - would suggest he may be on the chopping board.

Dick' son took his father's place.

Brisbane forecast for Sat 24 degrees with scattered showers and chance of thunderstorms from early afternoon. Could be challenging for our Swannies.

I'd say this could be Marsh and Lockyer's last games with us possibly? And yes agreed Dick looks gone. Hopefully Tommy Walsh gets another year but he'd have to be some doubt...

Hopefully Heeney and Mills will get a bit more game time than last week but I understand giving priority to the currently listed players. I'm tipping Tommy to have 40+ and walk away with a couple of medals

I am pleased to see Davis getting a game - I thought he was extremely good at the contest last week and showed the flexibility that it is claimed our coaches look for

I thought Davis did well last week, and glad he is getting another chance.

Will be an interesting game, given they've never played each other, so there is a fair bit of an unknown quantity about it for a Grand Final.

Mitchell is going to rip it up I think, he really played well last week and is getting a nice run of form on now that he is having a relatively injury free run by his standards.

Will we be able to see it on YouTube?
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I'd like to see Abe a bit more ferocious at the contest. He is sometimes a bit tentative. His big body could be the difference in many situations if he only used it to break packs. He is improving but still needs to put himself forward a bit more.

                            I am not sure this pampering of the non AFL affiliated sides is very good for the comp. I think we need to look at things a bit differently and say to those sides they just have to come up to a standard where they can compete on an even level. This idea of only being able to play 15 listed players because the opposition couldn't win if we played 18 is ludicrous. This opposition is very good and have some pretty good ex-AFL players. Robert Copeland, Joey Daye & Eddie Sansbury are pretty good players. Hutchinson could still play AFL as a mature recruit. Aspley have recruited very well and a few other sides, take note Canberra sides, could follow their example. Other than those mentioned this is a run down of their recruits;

Jon Williams; originally from Cooperoo he was drafted by Essendon and spent two years on their list before being picked up by Aspley

Liam Dawson; Qld/Brisbane Academy player who was unlucky to miss out on the draft

Matt Payne; 2011 Grogan Medal winner for the B&F in the NEAFL

Ryan Matthews; Cairns Saints. Aspley B&F.

Jed Turner; Maroochydore & Redlands ruckman who is one of the best in the NEAFL.

Clinton French; Glenorchy. They certainly go a long way to recruit who they want

Jack Stanley; Was on the Suns list but got dropped and picked up by Aspley

Cheynee Stiller; On the Brisbane list before being delisted and picked up by Aspley

Henrey Joice; Morningside, close to being drafted. Got talent.

Austen Lucy; Morningside/Essendon. Drafted and delisted by Essendon and picked up by Aspley

Ryan Holman; Morningside, joint winner of the Syd Guilford Trophy, the media Award.

Gavin Grose; Ex Mt Gravatt captain. There is nothing like leadership.

This is a club that is on the move and they draft very well. This will be no easy task tomorrow. Our young blokes will have to be very sharp. They have a good mix of experience and youth. They have also got a serious game plan in place and seem to be able to get the overlap through run and carry. This is a very good side do not underestimate them.
