When Chris Pelchen worked for recruitment at the Hawks he used to give a talk to ACT Hawks fans who graciously invited tgevACT Swans supporters club to.

I remember Pelchen making clear that he absolutely valued elite kicking skills. The Hawks specifically tended to select left footers because their kicking efficiency was a few % better than right footers.

Does anyone think that the loss will be a mental disadvantage to the players? Next time we come up against the Hawks in a final they will be extremely confident and we will be having seconds thoughts on our ability to stand up and handle the pressure. Next season will show a lot about the character and strength of our group. Time to stand up boys!

Yes I think the severity of the loss and the team's complete inability to withstand the physicality of the Hawks will have a big mental impact unless the club takes steps to counteract it.

I always worry about what can happen in the off season when the players, particularly the ones without family responsibilities, release the pressure valve to have some fun. But I would be particularly concerned this year after that shellacking that there could be a reaction of 'what the heck, what does it matter, let's just let it rip'.

I hope the club has some sports psychologists working with them right now, before they head off on leave. And I also hope that not too many fans verbally abuse them when they get the chance (e.g. at Friday night's dinner). I suspect that their self esteem must already be pretty low.

I'd like to think when we next play them, it will be on, our team will be ferocious...

If not, then serious questions, of the coaching variety, need to be asked.

I'd also expect the same come finals. I doubt we'll be ambushed like that again.
Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it's time to pause and reflect... MT

                  Hmmm...interesting.

I have not pored over multiple Hawthorn performances, like a coach might do,but one thing has seemed apparent for several seasons :
They are very good at delivering the ball I50 using 'flat', low-trajectory kicking, thereby keeping even the fastest defenders out of making a contest.

Hawthorn are such a high scoring team because they are so good at getting a man open in the forward 50, spotting him and hitting him with a perfect pass. They don't kick to too many contested situations. That's the one big thing we need to do next year if we want to improve and get to their level. This is something has been well ingrained in their game plan and do it to perfection.

It's more than that. They don't have four talls - they hit players on the lead. We hit spots

                          That's right.

And that's why I think Goodes should hang up the boots and Reid should move to defence. Buddy and Tippett are just too dominant to allow for even a 3rd tall forward. I'd like to see Membrey play that Breust type forward role, offering up a dangerous accurate goal kicking alternative. As for the rest, we can rotate any number of players through: Towers, McGlynn, Cunningham, Jack, Jetta.

I was astounded by how often Reid got in the way of Tippett and Buddy during the year. He just brought his defender into the marking contest. I have to put this one on Horse.

We should play a more open forward line. Try to isolate Tippett and Franklin one on one. If they get double teamed, we should be able to hit an open man inside 50. This should become an integral part of the 2015 game plan. With those 2 forwards, we should be the highest scoring side in the competition.

I reckon we should try to get Dean Cox on board as an assistant, would be great for our young rucks to work with, has played in successful teams, seems a champion bloke with a good understanding of footy.
