    Patrick Smith eviscerates Bloods culture

It's rational to be philosophical about Saturday's performance - try and move on, but we did lose something that will be difficult to get back. Respect. Affection from neutrals. Certainly awe. This Patrick Smith piece is harsh, but there are large painful dollops of truth to it.

We've been absolutely smashed in the ultimate game of the last two seasons. There were excuses for last year, and Longmire and the players did refer to those excuses in the finals series, in comparing why they felt better this year than last. No excuses at all this year, and I'd be very pleased not to ever hear any.

The only way the Swans can overcome that loss of respect is to win the premiership, preferably next year, preferably against Hawthorn, preferably after beating Hawthorn in both home-and-away games next year. The make-up of the team should be determined by which players are willing/able to do that.

Once vaunted Bloods culture is nothing but a myth

HALF-TIME and you are numb. @@@@@ your finger with a pin. @Nothing. Not even blood.

That?s gone, too. What had been planned, what had been so minutely plotted now makes no sense. Even in a game so random as AFL football. It is like you have turned up at the wrong ground at the wrong time.

The hurt will leave if the boys want it to - by using this article, and the numerous ones to come over the coming months, as motivation for the team to rise again in 2015. It will hurt, and it should hurt, because it was one of the most un-swans like performances seen in a long time.

We need to use the hurt like the Cats used the 2008 hurt to go on a run against Hawthorn. We need to show the footy world Saturday was an aberration, and that our proud club can rise from the disaster.

He makes plenty of good points about the bleeding obvious during the game, but in typical Partick Smith style, goes over the top as well.
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."

Keep these articles coming media, put them all together and use it as fuel for redemption next year.

Whether it's coming from Patrick Smith or the fans on RWO, comments on our performance are consistent. It was so bizarre, it's hard to know what to make of it. It's hard to know if it's indicative of anything or just an inexplicable aberration.

Painful to read but absolutely spot on...I just hope that the humiliation isn't the end of our 'culture' but the dawn of a new one. Let's hope there's a line drawn in the sand at Bondi.

                They can go to hell.

Nothing Patrick Smith says is worth paying for.

Bottom line is we were CRAP. Doesn't matter how you like to gloss over it, CRAP, CRAP, CRAP, CRAP.

If only abject shame and humiliation works.

Can't wait to see the players in person... somewhere, anywhere. They're dead-set going to cop a good mouthfull off me.

Thanks O'Reilly, that's a great trick. And the article is worth reading. Unlike a lot of stuff in Rupert's Rags it's truthful.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Not only did we lose the granny, we've lost the RESPECT of everyone else.

They "used" to think we were a pack of hard-working cortinas and respected us for our efforts ... now we're just the bondi billionaires who spent all our COLA money.

                        No respect.

Completely overblown. Culture doesn't get created or destroyed by one performance.
He was spot on with aspects of the game though. We were absolutely awful on Saturday. My 6 month old would have got more of the ball than Lewis Jetta.

I was waxing philosophical yesterday trying to find a silver lining but the more people at work ask me about what happened the more irate I've gotten.

The players are custodians of this great club and they let it and themselves down badly.

Hopefully the pain of this will drive them on.

This is more than just about about playing badly. It's about effort and intensity. Why in the biggest game were most of our blokes not showing these traits. The bloods culture would have ensured that the finger got pulled out after qtr time and while we may have still been beaten at least we could have held our heads up today and not feel shame.

I'm not writing off the culture but the test of it will be how this group responds to this debacle. Do they go down the Hawks path and work their bums off to atone or do they fall apart like Port after 2007. Time will tell.
