No doubt. I think Emma Quayle is a clever journo, so surely RWO would be the first place to look for an intelligent debate of the issues. Read the thread, cut and paste, change a few player names, and take the rest of the day off.
Alan Jones probably checks The Sandpit for his material.Comment

Brad Seymour doesn't pull any punches (including a few nice jabs at Hawthorn):

OK. I have been reading the contents re COLA on all the newspaper articles and once again I want to make something clear. I was a foundation member of the Sydney Swans and have followed the through thick and thin since. I distinctly remember that when the COLA was brought in, it was done so for 2 reasons:
1. It was more expensive to live in Sydney and there had to be a financial attraction for players, but something that is forgotten about in most COLA conversations is,
2. Most players in all other states (except maybe Qld) receive a lot of extra income through endorsements, appearance money, etc, while players in Sydney forfeit that because it all goes to League players.
I specifically remember that this was the discussion at the time. Victorian players earn more outside of their contracts than NSW players, and that is one of the reasons the COLA was introduced.
Why had this been forgotten? !?Comment

BTW, Tony Jones is far too close to the right wing establishment to be my mate. He can get his material from the Sandpit as well.Comment

I've been wondering this year, as McGuire's relentless attack on the Swans took hold, where has this come from?
He used to be quite complimentary of the Swans and twice publicly said that the COLA was totally justified.
(A fellow member, mate of mine, whose son was a school friend of Eddies son Jo, brought Jo to a game with us...He was wearing red and a Swans cap!! I wish I had taken a photo.)
So what happened to turn him so much against us? I think the answer lies, to some extent, to his failed foray into the Sydney media.
He made a total @@@@ up of running channel 9, and was sent back to Melbourne with his tail between his legs.
His ego took a big hit and I don't think he has, or ever will, get over it..
IMO, from this has spawned his perceived deep seated resentment of anything Sydney, and where he can have an effect is in footy.
As Matt80 would say...It's just my opinion.Comment

It's a shame in this whole saga that the AFL does not report total player payments - total actual money players receive per club, rather than some estimate using the numerous discountings for various categories - not to mention additional services agreements which may reach well over half a million.
Sydney may well not be that far ahead of other clubs for TPP dollar wise - if at all. The power of perceptions...Comment

look im over this whole thing
as i first stated i would rather keep the academies and have 500 something kids going thru and becoming footballers and it appears that the AFL is acting tough in one area so we can keep the academies !
these academy kids then filter out into sydney / nsw and recruit their friends to play in a local team etc
for the swans to survive we need more and more kids wanting to play AFL in sydney / nsw so that more and more come and watch the games and become members
look how successful the Western Sydney Wanderers are already.........their supporters are going crazy and membership in the space of a few years doesnt even get you a seet at a home game which is such an amazing reality already !Comment

Fair enough Liz. If that's the case you won't mind me re-posting this comment which was deleted.
This has to be the most absurd decisions the AFL, A.K.A. VFL, has ever made. They have abolished the COLA and placed certain requirements on the Swans COLA allowance over the phasing out period. The Swans are complying with this yet they want to impose this additional PENALTY on the Swans to make sure that they comply with it. If that is the case they need to impose this on ALL clubs incase they breach their salary caps. Exactly the same argument.
This makes no sense and is simply policy on the run that surpasses the huge "policy on the run" stuff ups of Rudd, Gillard and Bracks such as the home insulation scheme, the North South pipeline and The Building Education Revolution. I can only assume the McGuire, Newbold and Gordon have got into McLachlin's ear and called in the favour he still owes them for backing his promotion into the top job.
