I proposed late last year that the club attempt to build a bridge with Eddie using Adam Goodes to assist. My suggestion was shot down in a major way. The club needs to find a way to get Eddie off its back. Based on the AFLs decision to issue the Swans a trade ban, I don't think the AFL can resist a fierce Eddie campaign.

I would not be trusting the AFL to back the Swans. I think the noise needs to be stopped from Eddie.

Maybe a deal can be reached.

Eddie gets a photo opportunity with Adam Goodes a well-known Melbourne eatery and a fluffy newspaper piece about old mates making up in exchange for getting off the Swans back on the Academy. Eddie would love the positive public image far more than derailing the Swans Academy.

    This is just my opinion.
So your solution is to tell Adam to compromise on his beliefs and abandon the stance that he has taken on behalf of his race so that Eddie will be nice to a football team?
Matt, I stay out of your arguments because I believe you can't really be serious and that you are baiting, but I have the horrible suspicion that this is actually your world view now.
Please think a little more carefully. Not all of us are prepared to abandon our entire race for a game of football.

I'm only proposing a different way to get the job done.

I'm waiting for some different solutions on how to stop the Eddie noise.

As we have seen the AFL listens to Eddie and often gives into his demands (Brisbane Lions, Football Department Tax Backdown, Swans Trade Ban). It does not happen immediately, but his lobbying is often successful.

Before you all jump on me, why not come up with some solutions on how to address this situation.

There has to be a better and more strategic way than taking Legal Action after adverse decisions are made.

Are there any better ideas to stop Eddies noise?
I agree. We do need to do something, but not that.

I think we need to fight fire with fire and run a media campaign demanding that the AFL remove the conflicts of interest that currently exist. Having AFL Presidents sitting on committees and panels that decide the fate of their opponents should never happen. I doubt that the club would want to be seen as the instigator of this however as they don't want to get on the AFL's wrong side. We need some of the celebrity supporters of the club to get this started and with the support of journos with concerns about the integrity of the game, ie. Carro or Emma Quayle we might be able to have an impact. We need to do this now however as after the AFL makes it's decision on the academy/F/S situation it will bee too late.

Eddie is too powerful and too much of a Melbourne identity for us to do anything.

I do agree with Matt..install a CEO with no ties at all to the Melbourne mafia. The issue for McGuire and Co then becomes how to deal with an outsider who has never played the game or even followed it. This is enough to send silly victorians into a free fall headspin and enough for their petty vindictive nature to flourish. They will go after a non AFL CEO with relentless hate.

Another issue is that McGuire controls part of the AFL media landscape through his production company. Massive COI right there but its seems to be an aussie trait too look the other way with COI as long as "i" get a cut of the spoils who cares about integrity.

My issue is that when Collingwood do well Eddie is happy and he hardly whines..but as soon as the pies become crap he takes it out on other clubs and finds holes and reasons other than the pies just having an avg coach and list, to blame for the pies being crap. People say its good to see his is passionate but really he is borderline sociopathic behavior in the way he supports his pies.

So yeah fighting Eddie is not easy at all..the club knows this and why they havent bothered with him. He is a nasty POS vindictive cashed up bogan.

            Shoot him in the kneecaps???

Oh. Sorry, I thought we were discussing how to get rid of Eddie.
Yeah, shoot him in the kneecaps.

We're STILL being punished for something we didn't do.
Why the club are bending over and taking it, I'll never know.
I'm hoping to have a chat with our management at the Redbacks cocktail function, I'm going to have to demand answers from them.
Why weren't the QCs called in from day one, will be my first question.

            Pandering to Eddie.
            Eddie is a wanker.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Hi All, I am only new to RWO but am a lifelong Swannies supporter since the SMFC days. All of your posts make for interesting reading but the thing I cannot believe is the hypocrisy of the man, ie Eddie McWhine! I would love to know how Collingwood have never been looked at for the whole tanking episode when they received Pendlebury and Thomas when they were only playing GF's two years before, how can you qualify for a priority pick?! At least MFC have been atrocious for a number of years to justify!! And then they pick up Moore as a father son pick, on top the Shaws, Clokes, etc, but are happy to get stuck into us about Heeney?? Hopefully Jason Ball will at least give us a voice on the Commission but I must admit I have been seriously disappointed with how we rolled over in relation to the trade ban.

Well said snork and welcome. I'm amazed by that too. Collingwood and Hawthorn are the original tankers thanks to these stupid priority picks. Remember when Collingwood put 1/3 of their team on ice at the end of the season? Hawthorn did the same. The Fat Controller never complained then did he.

I must admit, I have enjoyed another thread where some of the posters, including yourself, touched on their own family links to the red and white playing family. Red and White royalty I say!! Hopefully common sense will prevail and we will be able to claim what I believe are rightfully ours, ie Callum Mills and young Josh Dunkley! I must agree with Matt80 in saying these young kids must be our priority! Both look as hard as a cats head and I can't wait to see these young blokes going hammer and tongs with Hannas, Parks, JPK, Tommy, etc!! I must admit I would like to see young Hewitt get a run at some stage!

Its called corruption and australia is up to its neck in it, be it state of federal politics, sporting bodies, unions etc. While most first world countries have exposed theirs or have done something about it Australia has never really dealt with it and we as a nation have assumed it never happens here but it has. Its been happening for decades and decades.

We have a system where men with suits in power have enacted policies or laws that cover up their corruption or conflict of interest. They have also re worded a lot of laws and policies. Take donations of political parties..since when does giving 50k to a political party thus ensuring you deals or tenders coming your way, called a donation? And the deeper you look the worst its become.

The AFL is riddled with it and why people like McGuire do as they please and are allowed to set the narrative. McGuire also has investments deeply seeded in the AFL along with his buddies.

Our problem is we play by the rules and are seen too much of a goody goody club. Fans are suspicious of us and are always trying to find something, anything, to tar our image. We dont have that scumbag element like the pies and hawks do. The hawks are one of the most sly clubs in the AFL..they have drummed up this image of them being a honest family club but really they are just as bad as the others if not worst. Remember who was their pres for a while and what his political leanings were. Look at how they manipulated their membership count and other practices.

I agree with just about all of this, and we probably are seen as a goody goody club, as you say. But do we act like this because we have an astute management that knows where the power sits, or are we just pushovers? I don't know the answer to this. We are not privy to what goes on behind closed doors. There is no point in fighting battles you know that you are going to lose. I have been quite impressed by our management team over the years and Tom Harley adds to that perception, which leads me to believe that they believe they can win the war against the Melbourne mob by use of cunning and guile. And if not win the war, at least get the best outcome possible under the corrupt conditions we face.

I think this is it. Remember we have been in bed with one of the worlds biggest insurence companies. Its more than likely they offer a lot of advice as both a partner of the club and as a client. I would say the advice given is to just let McGuire and co do what they are doing while we do our thing and prove time again how astute of a club we are.

McGuire just needs to be shut up for a while.

The only way to shut McGuire is to take him to the courts for slandering the swans brand. The narrative of us being cheats he is pushing is getting tiring and is damaging us down in the AFL heartland. Just get an injunction to shut that disgusting mouth of his for a while. Lets hope the pies do something this year or he will go nuts.
