When your team is manned by "trading" during the "trade period" (only), for a team that has done NOTHING wrong (AFL's words), we are STILL restricted.

We can afford a $600K player... we're not getting that quality just because the AFL are a pack of petty beyatches.

Injunction on all trading. That is the only thing that's going to make them take us seriously.
I know there are matters of principle here, and we are all incensed by the way we've been treated by the AFL, but given our current contract commitments in place (Buddy, Tippo, Reid, Hanners) and the ongoing reduction in our salary cap, I doubt we can afford to sign on another player on big money, and it would be irresponsible if we did.

Listening closely to Tom Harley's statement on the agreement reached with the AFL gives the impression that we don't think it's a fair outcome on principle, but one that's not going to affect our trading ability in practical terms.

I would back our management team in achieving this outcome. They must have consulted with lawyers and felt this was the best we could under the circumstances, as unsatisfying as it might be in some respects.

Another thing to consider, if worse comes to worst with Buddy, good luck getting the AFL to give us any type of 'extenuating circumstances concession' on his crippling contract if we race them off to court over this.

As unpalatable as the whole trading ban is, it probably won't affect us this year and with the latest 'concession' will still be able to do what we want to do. In hindsight, it may have affected us more last year if it was the case that Patful wanted in at the Swans...

The two issues are not linked.

We should mount a court case over the trading ban, and if buddy is unable to furfil his contract, we should mount a court case over that too, if the AFL gives us no relief.

Both cases have precedent, so are really easy wins.

Maybe there's a silver lining to the trade ban and the swans can save up the cap space and unload on some quality talent in the 2016 trade period.

I just hope the swans manage to snag several proven players this time (Similar to 2010, Kennedy, McGlynn, Mumford) rather than blow it all on a superstar player (Buddy).

I believe the club is looking at the long game. Sometimes you have to lose the battle to win the war.

It's pretty hard to win a trick when the other guy holds all the cards.
