    TLM Countdown 2014, Rounds 14-15

    Round 14: MCG
    Sydney Swans 9.8 (62) def. Richmond 7.9 (51)

In a low scoring match the Sydney Swans fought back from a slow start to defeat Richmond by 11 points in a Friday night fixture at the MCG. The Swans looked well below their best during the first 50 minutes of the match and were down by four goals at the 17-minute mark of the second term. They then kicked two goals just before half-time to get themselves into the contest. After hitting the front in the third term, the Swans fell a point down by three-quarter time, but then lifted again in the final quarter to take the win.

Overall the game was a dour spectacle but some excitement was provided by an entertaining contest between Lance Franklin and Tigers defender Alex Rance. Franklin emerged with the honours booting four vital goals: two in the second quarter including one after a spectacular juggling mark; one early in the final quarter with a snap from close range to take the Swans to the lead; and then one to seal the match with a set shot from a free kick with only six minutes remaining.

Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Jarrad McVeigh played well in the second half, with Parker entering the highlights reel with a superb one-handed mark in the third quarter. Debutant Zak Jones picked up nine touches and laid six tackles after coming on early in the third quarter as substitute for Rhyce Shaw who suffered an ankle injury. Jones lived up to his reputation as a fierce and courageous competitor by his strong contested efforts, evidenced by his ripped jumper in his first senior game.

    Goals: Franklin 4, K. Jack 2, Reid 2, McVeigh
Brownlow Medal votes: 3. L Franklin (Syd) 2. T Cotchin (Rich) 1. D Martin (Rich)
Bob Skilton Medal votes: Franklin 37, Cunningham 34, Kennedy 32, Richards 27

    TLM Votes
    5 Lance Franklin
    4 Harry Cunningham
    3 Josh Kennedy
    2 Lewis Jetta
    1 Jarrad McVeigh

Round 15, Swans v GWS Giants
    15.16.106 to 8.12.60
The Swans were clearly out to repay the awful round 1 anomaly. Though it took a while to get the first goal, the Swans never looked like faltering; the pressure from both teams in the first quarter was intense-until the play was stopped midway through after Heath Shaw tried to break Tippett?s knees with his head.
It was a blow that both Heath and his team just couldn?t shake off, with H.Shaw sidelined for the rest of the game and the Swans just hitting their stride and relentlessly dominating the cross town rivals. Buddy?s five goals, Pyke holding his own against his once ruck partner and Jack finding form with 32 touches helped seal a convincing victory leaving the Swans on their 10th consecutive win-the longest streak since 1395.
Longmire in typical effusive fashion described the win as ?It's certainly better than losing?

Brownlow Medal votes: 3. J Kennedy (Syd) 2. L Franklin (Syd) 1. K Jack (Syd)
Bob Skilton Medal votes: Lance Franklin 45, Josh Kennedy 40, Kieren Jack 40, Luke Parker 35

    TLM Votes
    5 Lance Franklin
    5 Kieren Jack
    3 Josh Kennedy
    2 Nick Malceski
    1 Mike Pyke

A perfect 10 for Buddy sees him rocket into second place, but still a long way from Josh who increases his lead to 20.

Good to see recognition for Harry.
I'm surprised to see Myke didn't pole higher against the Giants. He pretty much dominated over Mummy (IIRC).
