Yes the VFL likes to punish clever and progressive clubs (read the Swans).
Expect an announcement next week to ban us from next years draft just because we can't have everything! Wasn't that the reason that CEO puppet/muppet gave for banning us trading players?
I'm Adelaide based but even I think this is a great piece of news, the SCG to become a fortress I hope.Comment

If we are playing at SCG only it will mean finals as we wouldn't have a deal or the AFL would no longer have a deal with ANZ. The three H/A games were a part of the deal to play finals that was forced on the Swans. Now the SCG has been improved and has plans for more improvements and expansion in the future it will be purrfect for finals. always hated the view from Red Zone at ANZ. Surface crap too. We are more at home at SCG too.Comment

I know I'm in the minority but I'm a bit disappointed but I'm not surprised. I never understood the hate for the StadAust and enjoyed the games played out there. In the 2000's we had some super big games, 2003 the Lions, 2006 against Freo, the 2007 games were massive. I think a number of factors combined to drag things downhill after that and of course now the AFL want the West for the Giants, makes absolutely no sense for the Swans to play out there.
StadAust is at a tipping point now I think. Parra wants money, Penrith & Campbelltown want upgrades. Going to be interesting to see if StadAust survives.
And it sounds like there's a sweetener in there to upgrade the Swans base as well which is very cramped now, particularly compared to what has been built for the Tah's and Roosters.Last edited by floppinab; 24 November 2014, 11:55 AM.Comment

does that mean the wobbles can get less tickets to a game?
(yes, I know we play them at the scg next year.)
Every game should be a sell out - whether the members turn up or not.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

However, I think that Homebush needs big crowds of in excess of 60,000 to create an atmosphere.
As recently as 2007 there were three Swans games at Homebush, with 62,586 representing the lowest crowd. Then the bottom fell out of the bag, starting with the embarrassing crowd of 19,000 for the 2008 Kangaroos finals game.
In the 29 games played there since 2007, not one game ever has got over 60,000. Indeed not one Home and Away crowd has since 2008 exceeded 46,000, barely half the stadium's capacity.
For me the most disappointing crowd and a sign that the Olympic Stadium's time was up from a Swans' point of view, was the Round 20 2012 game against Collingwood. The weather that night was beautiful, and the Swans were coming top of the ladder, with Collingwood on 3rd place, just one game behind Sydney. The Swans membership numbers were almost a record high. At that point in the season the Swans had won 9 games in a row. Yet only 45,827 bothered to show up. This compared with a 2003 Round 21 game against the Pies, which 4th v 3rd on the ladder, where membership was less than 2012, and where it was a constantly wet that night. The crowd for that game? 72,393.Comment
