    Naismith V Melican

With the Perris injury, it looks like a two horse race between Naismith and Melican to secure the one vacant rookie upgrade spot currently available.

Who do people think will secure the vacant senior spot? Will they wait as far into the season as they can to see how healthy Pyke and Tom D will remain.

The reports on Melican have been wonderful. Can he swoop in for the 3rd tall defender spot and move Rampe to 4th defensive tall?

The vacant spot due to injury is always given to a player who fits a gap. At this stage there is no gap in the ruck and Big Sam will probably have to wait until later to get his shot. There are always injuries in the season unfortunately. He was good in the Intra though which shows he isn't far off. But let's see how they all go in the NAB Challenge. That would give a far better indication as to who is really performing.

There is always a good indication as to who will get the nod by who plays the most NAB cup games. Lloyd played all from memory last season. Harry the year before. But of course Nic Newman is just back from injury and will probably be in the mix hen the time comes anyway.

Too early to tell how the coaches are thinking.

We have 2 spots open in fact. AJ being the other one. But I don't see a reason to upgrade anyone at this time. The rest of the the list is looking healthy.

It's pretty scary the way some key players are getting injured this early in the pre season. Eric McKenzie looks out for the year with an ACL, and Tom Libbatore may also have a serious knee injury.

It may be last man standing the way things are going.

I was counting the one spot as the Alex Johnson long term injury. Does a 38 man senior list get the option of one rookie upgrade regardless of injury?
