He's such a unique player in that he is arguably at his best when given license to roam the field - probably comes from his days in the ruck. He has never been a reliable set position player. The ressies' coaches may have to rethink their strategies for Saturday.

One day Matt, they will invent a game just for you called - TFL - Tackle Football league. The result won't depend on the number of points kicked, but the combined number of tackles made, with tackles made by nominated 'forwards' counting for double. You'll be perfectly in your element.

Tackles are important. Was Buddy playing TFL when he saved the game against the Bombers? It would have been a quiet return drive to Canberra if Buddy had not made that tackle. It was the key play in that comeback 4th quarter.

The AFL community has been frothing at the mouth about Kurt and Buddy's combined 16 tackles against Port. The amazing thing is that Kurt and Buddy only kicked 4 goals between them, which is a modest goal scoring return.

I hope that Heeney is the sub, but judging by Longmires admission that Goodes turned down the sub role, Heeney was not going to be given the sub role. I think is would be wise to rest up Heeney before Subiaco in the vest

If McGlynn is not ready then Brandon Jack will come into the subs vest. I don't mind Brandon as sub. He can come on late in the game and apply forward chasing pressure and nail 3-4 big tackles.

Longmire was clearly tense about the Goodes discussion, but handled it well. If we can read anything into what he said, it would seem offering Goodes the sub role indicates that he intended to go into the game with an unchanged side. So you would think that whoever comes in would be the sub.

Cunningham didn't play footy last week, so he will be in the reserves. I feel that if McGlynn comes in he would be the sub, but at this point it is probably best for him to play a full game. Also shows Adam that regular senior players are not automatic selections. Benny would be a sulker by the looks of it, so Adam can have company in the ressies this week.

I think Horse would like to play Robinson, but my feeling is that Mitchell will get the nod.

Adam is a great man. Everything he does, he does with dignity. He's a proud man too and he'll want to get back in the side, and I feel that he will. He's been through a lot worse than getting dropped.

I always have a bad feeling about games in the wet - we never do well in them it seems. But we are 1 win, 0 losses so far in 2015 in the wet, so bring it on!

My perceptive on the Goodes situation is sort of excitement, in a strange way. Over the last couple of years Adam has built into the season. Previously he had extra slow pre seasons. This one was not too bad for him but he is getting older and losing pace and touch. If he can get through, say 5 games uninjured and slowly get back into the top 22 even on a part time bases, then he will be a great asset for end of season games. His leadership and experience will be invaluable.

It may be possible for Heeney to play the entire season as a starter. He looks very fit and has finished games well. I think his 4th quarters have been great. He set up our final 2 goals last week. For the record, Dyson Heppel played all 23 games in his first season in 2011, averaging over 21 disposals, and won the Rising Star. So it certainly is possible. I think Heeney is heading the same way as Heppel and will be one of the best mids in the league in a few years time.

I think Horse is keen to push the development of both Rohan and Towers and will continue to play them so long as they improve. In a convoluted way, it is Laidler and Heeney that are keeping Goodes out of the side. Laidler allows Rohan to play forward and Heeney playing there as well have locked down a couple of spots in the forward line.

Speaking of Laidler, He seemed a lot quicker than I thought he was. Perhaps he worked on his speed during the off season. There was a sprint along the boundary with Matt White on Saturday and he was running with him step for step. What a bonus for us if he can hold down a spot in our defence. It allows Rampe to fill that attacking defender, Malceski type role, that is so valuable.

I thought he was really good in the Port game and far from the worst in round 1. The future of the back line and carry out of it had me worried for a while with the recent losses (AJ, Mal) and ageing defenders (Ted), but it's looking a lot better when Laidler and Rampe have solid games.

I'm still of the view demoting Laidler last year was one of Horse's big mistakes (and I'm not a Longmire-basher by the way).

But - and dare I say it - Matt80 is right that Horse seemed to limit the number of 'slower' players and weighted instead towards the quicker runners in the middle like Cunningham or Lloyd . . . or down back, where Rohan seemed to effectively take Laidler's spot.

Laidler is no star, and no sprinter. But's he reminds me of LRT - a hard, physical, competitive, desperate, do-the-basics, team-orientated and flexible player. He's an essential ingredient for me.
