That I liked. We are on the receiving end of this manoeuvre often enough, nice to see us dishing it out.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

      Bloody wait-awhiles!!
They should just go ahead and form their own country.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Lloyd is now our number one midfield distributor. The disposal of Parker and Kennedy are way below his level.
        Lloyd's gut running is outstanding.
Cunningham should be banished to the 2's and traded.
        Tippett should always play FF.
Rohan should always start and play up forward. Is very dangerous at the fall of the ball. Tippett plays FF, Franklin CHF with Rohan at their feet. Gives very dangerous structure. Messing around with Tippett creates too much instability in the structure. Rohan and McGlynn provide the quick forward pressure.
Not getting a lot of effective ball use from Kennedy.
        Need another quality back man.
Jack needs to play 4 quarters.
To be fair to Kennedy, he was at the birth of his first child and wasn't on the original flight with the team. He didn't get to have a run with the team at the ground prior to the game. And we also do not know how his wife's labour went (I hope that it went as well as could be). I am sure we will see an improved display.

            Jakey played really well.
Such a cool head in the second half.
He got us out of the @@@@ a few times.

Not so fast, last year Cunningham won the Swans rising star and finished tenth in the Bob Skilton medal. He was improving wonderfully.
He may just need a firecracker up his backside to make him realise he hasn't made it and has to work even harder than last year. He probably should have been dropped for more than one week in round two(?)

In that regard he reminds me of Paul Williams. He actually seems to quickly check his options before making one.

Interesting observation. I actually think you can't play on too quickly when you play against Freo, they are too good defensively. This seemed to get us into trouble early, I felt we needed to play 'tempo' footy and try to hit a few targets on the lead to break up their defence. I think the commentators may have highlighted this in the third quarter when we started taking a few uncontested marks to try and slow the game down, at least until we got control back.

I just saw this footage last night - that's staggering, has the AFL made any comment on it? It's just preposterous that he had any role to play in the decision whatsoever.

Just watching the replay again and with 18:45 to go in the 2nd quarter, that same boundary umpire ruled that a bouncing ball came off a Swan last and out of bounds on the full when it was clearly not the case even at real speed. If he couldn't get this decision right with no goal posts to obstruct him, you can't have any confidence in him overruling the goal umpire in that contentious decision.

On the AFL Whistleblowers video Hayden Kennedy says the Bird decision was correct, saying that the boundary umpire had a clear direct view of the ball being touched (even though the video shows he was clearly obstructed). He also said this was confirmed in the video review by video footage not shown to the public.

The 'secret' video footage will be kept in a vault at AFL headquarter along with Essendon's thymosin beta-4 injections records and evidence of other AFL experimental programs, not to be released for a period of 40 years.

In fairness (yeah I know, what has fairness got to do with it) what Kennedy said is that the boundary umpire was looking behind the point post (or to his left) and therefore he could see BETWEEN the point post and the goal post and could see what happened. You can sort of see this on the video.
He also said boundary ump was "100% certain" whereas what the boundary ump actually said was he "believed" the ball was touched. Bit of difference in confidence in those two statements in my view.
He also said that the additional video footage (not shown) used Hawk-Eye. Now as I understand it, Hawk-Eye is a computer system used officially in numerous sports, most notably in Australia for cricket and tennis, to visually track the trajectory of the ball and display a record of its statistically most likely path. Is that what he meant? That is the upstairs ump used a computer-generated image which suggested the ball was touched?
And if the AFL has gone down that path, then it seems to me they need to use Hotspot for this type of situation to be able to judge if there was any contact between the ball and the outstretched hand/fingers of the opposition player.

I think "touched" should mean that the ball actually was touched and deviated in some way. Much like hitting the post.
                                Not it brushed a fingernail.
