That should mean Mitchell gets another game

Mitchell should get a game regardless of whether it's 40 degrees or if the MCG is covered in a foot of snow.

Oh I agree. I just meant that the forecast should ensure that he gets selected again.

What is this assumption he is slow..just because he couldn't run down Puopolo in one game.

He is as quick as Grundy and Ted, he reads the play well and doing the solid things that are required in the backline.

Laidler is slow when he moves laterally...reasonably fast in a straight line though. He is also reasonably slow getting the ball to boot or releasing a hand-ball.

I don't know if anybody has said anything about Rampe's mistakes costing us dearly last week. He was dreadful. Looked like he had a night out not long before the game but probably not. Just hopeless i the wet. He wasn't that flash against freo in the NAB match in very wet conditions either. Jones did very well in the Twos last week.

Towers did not play a match the week before and usually if a player has been travelling emergency he automatically goes back to the Twos. He didn't and that may have affected his game causing a negative effect. bad day to have a bad game too as there were plenty out there having just the same including Goodes (12), Macca (19), Kizza (18), Shaw (14), Bird (14), Rampe (14). Towers was by far the worst, goodes not good as well as Harry when he came on.

The same players seem to be playing well every week, week in week out. Parker, Hannas, Joey, Buddy, Laidler, Rohan & Lloyd. The rest are hit & miss.

I would include Tip & Pykie as playing well in the ruck but neither get enough of the ball around the ground to affect the game. Tip 9 & Pykie 8 disposals is pretty meek. Pykie's rucking has been really good as far as the volume of taps he gets but most just go to the bottom of the packs.

I think Pykie might just have a rest this week & big Sammy Naismith might just come in. The lad has been playing really good footy in the Twos. Benny is doubtful again but played pretty well in the Twos last week. George Hewett had a blinder. I am scratching my head over Marsh getting BOG, he was ok and did a very good job while the defence was under pressure in the first half but I still don't see how he got BOG. Jones was really good the whole game. After seeing Newman in the second half I think he is going to be a really good player when he gets match fit. He seems to have a bit of mongrel about him too. That makes Jones, Newman, Naismith, Nankervis, Benny, Robbo, Jordan Foote and even James Rose and George Hewett weren't averse to the biffo when it happened. Young George was right in there sticking up for his mate. But Newman, Benny, Zac, Nanka & Big Sammy are just tough country boys.

                So who to go for?

I'd bring Jones, Naismith, Hewett in for Goodes, Towers & Pykie (a rest for the poor old bugger). Young George kicks a nice long goal and has played half forward in North Adelaide's Seniors team under Josh Franceou. Jones can play either HB or mids so has that flexibility. This is the perfect game to blood Naismith a bit more.

Apart from Danners, Pyke was the only Swans player to pick up any votes in the coaches award. Can't see him being dropped.
Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.

Not dropped, bloody rested for F's sake. Read the bloody script. I forgot about Heeney he comes in and Shaw out, he was hopeless and has been most of the season.

I understand the idea of resting but I don't believe he should be rested when we are only six games in and Myke is starting to find some good form.
I don't pretend to understand anything about conditioning and fitness but I would hope our senior players can play more than 5-6 games in a row without needing a week off.

The game we played on a dry ground we played great. Although Sydney has been In Flood for a month, we obviously trained inside. Our game style suits fast grounds., but I hate to see us look so poor. Jetta, towers may have perceived pace but they have no ticker. No bloods spirit , they are scared of the body on the line football. That gets found out before the game starts, WB had teenagers going harder than us. We are getting hunted, studied, pressured, beaten at the things we invented. Longmire needs to look at the new coaching styles and back the kids, they want to play in the ones and will go full on to stay there, Mitchell stays , his handballs are the best by far, just tell him to get to every stoppage like ryno used too. He has uncanny ball sense . Pyre needs help, Sammy has grant skills for a big man, reminds me of a Goldstein although a few years off, even get fumbles derix in there to crash and bash. Hurt the other ruck an or crash some packs. We were once the hardest....we are getting beat at that atm.
Melbourne will be full of confidence and if we think buddy will win it ...look out for the backlash from Melbourne media next week. Bird is another that has escaped scrutiny. Has had a few bad games. Blood jones or Robinson to tag. Kirk started that way, jack did too.
We need a crumbling fwd with natural skill. Start looking up Darwin way I reckon

Yes but I was not counting him until he is declared fit. He has been declared fit now and he and McGlinn are set to return. We are doing a lot better than last year with injury. It is our effort and discipline that is worrying me. I only put those ins and outs as an example of what might happen. Sometimes players do get rested but not often. We saw it last year approaching the finals. That may not have been a good idea at that time of year though. I am not convinced that resting players in the last rounds is a good idea. All the sides that won the premiership lately went into the finals with all their sides having played the last two games.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall at the selection committee meeting this week as there are so many good players up for selection and some of the seniors are not performing to standard. As an example these players are really below par; Rampe, Shaw, Goodes, Towers, Reg (the only really ordinary game this year, although I think Longmire got the match ups wrong), Bird (poor last week first bad one), Macca (hardly sighted and when he was disposal was always rushed under perceived pressure), Cunningham (gave very little as sub), Kizza (very ordinary game), Teddy (too loose but exposed by bad match ups and our poor performance upfield).

What is disturbing for me is the lack of leadership by example shown by Macca and kizza. They were taken out of the game ands didn't put up a fight to get back into the game. Really weak leadership in my opinion, I may be wrong but I don't think so. Franklin, Parker, Joey, Laids, Pykie, Tip, Hannas, smithy etc all showed far greater leadership than our captains last week. They all played hard, desperate footy.

So who will come in? I don't have a crystal ball but I would suggest now Sammy and Benny have been cleared they will come in. Goodes & Towers will be dropped and I think Shaw has to be close to his last chance after a very poor start to the season. He is really susceptible to pressure and his disposal has been extremely poor. Rampe could be given a game in the Twos to punish him for his dreadful game but probably not. He wouldn't want to play another bad one though or he will be kicking dew.

The thing that worries me is last year we lost a few early games but we did have injuries and were getting structures right. We did not select to match up either we just played what was perceived as our best available 22. Later a few younger players got a shot and played well, Lloyd a stand out. Players like Tippett, McGlinn, Pyke, Goodes etc were all late starters. But this year we have had very few injuries and yet still in the same position. I know great starts are not that important and that the run home to the finals is more important but it still worries me. It is about the way we are losing that worries me. Lack of composure, concentration problems, too many players in poor form, several players at the crossroads and poor coaching decisions.

In; Benny, Sammy, Heeney & Jones

Out; Towers (really needed to get a game in the Twos last week before coming back to Seniors after being travelling sub), Goodes, Bird, either Rampe (poor last week although I think they will give him an extra week) or Shaw.
