Yea. I hadn't had a chance to see the swans site yet. I reckon bird has this happen of sneaking forward and scoring goals at crucial moments. That's why I like him

Conor they are Bird/Tower/Cunningham.
Surprised that Bird was dropped - but might be a wake up call to a few other people to stay on their game. Guessing it could also be about matchups too.
I think those changes leave us more balanced than we were against the Dogs last week, and otherwise are not particularly surprising. I hope Shaw has been put on notice however..."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

I suppose on a bigger ground, hopefully not as wet, they couldn't afford to carry Bird and Mitchell. Bird's stats from Saturday (14 disposals, 3 tackles) pale in comparison to Mitchell's (30 and 9). Bird is replaced by McGlynn and Longmire quite firmly spoke of his speed and hardness. I agree it's time to get him in the firsts and feeling part of it. No better ground to do it.
I agree that sub must be Goodes.
Really pleased Reid's back in particular: we really missed his height, athleticism and capacity to read the play in defence on Saturday.Comment

I loved Mitchell's game last week and he deserves his spot. I just feel bird is hard done by. Like he said he often snaps some amazing goals. He is often amongst our highest disposal getters but he goes unnoticed a lot. We will see.
Very glad to see heeney and Reid back.Comment

It is a certainly a tough call on Bird. He was tagging Murphy last week and didn't do a particularly effective job, although I don't think it was the right role for him; Cunningham would have been better in the conditions. It looks more likely it is due to matchups and structure as there really isn't a role for him with Mitchell in the side. He might have gotten the role of tagging Jones, but Jones hasn't been going all that well this year anyway, so it's likely we will forego the tag on anyone.
As Banned Some-guy-duct-taped-due-to-excessive-talkative-behavior-His-annoyingness-is-now-prohibite.jpgwould say, there is only room for 3 slowish inside mids. This helps clarify that this must well and truly be Longmire's thinking as well on the matter. I don't know what it means going forward. One day Hewett will come into the side and although not fast, is a bit quicker than either Bird or Mitchell and certainly more skillful by foot. And both Heeney and Robinson have the versatility to go both inside and outside. Watch this space.
McGlynn is surprising since earlier this week it was said that Benny had to get his form and fitness up in the 2s, giving the impression he still had time to serve there. He played OK, but was not a standout. He must have parked himself in Horse's office and put on hisface. But if fit, Benny is probably the best choice and might well be the sub; hard call on that one.
Looks like we're really going for the win this week. No experimentation allowed.Comment

I agree with above sentiments in that it seems a bit of a harsh call on Bird. He has become remarkable consistent over the last couple of years. Kieran and Macca are lucky they are captains. Their form has been worse than Bird. Either Kizza is still injured or out of form but he used to be one who get the ball from "inside" and move with it the "outside" with a few deft steps and handball/kick. I haven't seen/noticed that great facet of his game come back yet. Maybe he is being tagged."Fortunately, this is the internet, so knowing nothing is no obstacle to having an opinion!." Bird is a very good player, but I think he might be paying the penalty for Bob Murphy's influence on last week's game, as Ludwig said. And I agree it was not a good matchup. If we had played Shaw on Murphy, left Bird in the middle and played Cunningham on Murphy it may have been a different story. But such wild speculation and wisdom-after-the-event is what this site is all about. Bird will be back.
We have picked a good, solid team, who should do the job handsomely. (Crosses fingers)He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

Benny McGlynn will have a big day in front of him. He's also been named in our reserves team. None of the emergencies were named in the reserves, I suppose just in case Benny misses the plane to Melbourne.

And only 18 players in total. Obviously not the team that will take the field on SaturdayComment
