Looked very slippery on TV, are players just not willing to wear long-stops anymore?

Yep. It hurts their feet and i saw one of the other coaches say that just can't get some players to wear them.

Potential risk of knee and ankle injuries as, with longer stops/studs the boot can get "stuck" more easily with forces then translating to ankles & knees

I'm surprised they get a choice

                Not sure about AFL level.

Amateur you wear what you want.

SANFL, also players choose their boots and mostly they choose shorter stops. More manoeuvrable less injury risk. Additionally, on nights like tonight when it's slippery, not muddy, the long stops cause the boots/feet to stick a lot more in the turf. At least on muddy grounds, the boots will slide s bit
