Swans need to make Franklin part of the plan in right formula for success

    Matthew Lloyd for coach?

The problem isn't having Franklin on your team, as every side in the AFL would love to have him, but it's the tendency of teammates to continually funnel through him when it's not in their best interests.
The Swans are good enough to win this year's premiership but Longmire has to recognise at this point of the season that he has a forward line that has the ability to function much better with the personnel that he has at his disposal. Franklin, Tippett, Reid, Goodes and Parker are a powerful forward line if used smartly. With the two big boys out suspended last week, I loved seeing Josh Kennedy out of the goal square for periods of the match. Gary Rohan now believes that he belongs at AFL level and when he returns from injury, his pace and marking ability also adds potency and he could also be used out of the goal square to mix things up a bit.

Not a huge fan of Lloyd but he does make some good points, last week we saw a bit of 2012 swans, not just because of Reid and Goodes but midfielders resting forward and actually being targets rather than just crumbers.

But really, is this news or new analysis to anyone? This has been expressed on many occasions, by journalists and fans. It was also frequently put forward whilst Buddy was at Hawthorn. Lloyd is NOT Einstein. The difficulty is with the execution.

Agree with it entirety. At least Buddy gets around the ground as well but Tippert has been a distraction rather than an asset and Longmire needs to bight the bullet and put a side out there that's a bit more unpredictable.

No, not new, and still being talked about, that's the problem!

We probably heard similar comments in the late 90s with Plugger dominant, and in the mid noughties when Hall was at its peak. I've come to accept it as a fact of life that when a team - or at least the Swans - has a dominant forward, the team will overuse him. It's particularly frustrating at the moment because pretty much all our mids are capable forwards, and we also have Reid, Tippett and Goodes as taller marking forwards.

I remember reading recently that in 2008 when Buddy kicked 100 goals, Clarkson said he didn't want to see another Hawthorn player kick 100 goals while he was coach. He didn't like the reliance on one player.

Shocking start, we don't appear overly interested at the minute
