Any way you look at it, we do not have enough leg speed to cover Hawthorn on the spread, in and under, hardness at the coalface, we have them matched, speed and skill, no

I think Heeney has to come in for Bird but to play more across HF with some MF rotation time. I would also like to see Towers given a go at HB, IMHO we are lacking a little size and pace down back to match up against the Eagles.
Given the balance at the moment not sure if Jones or BJ offer what we need nor am I convinced with Cunningham he just doesnt get involved enough ,I think we lack a little size re Rohan and Towers. IMHO the team balance is never right if we play Bird Mitchell and Lyodd in our MF together

OUT Tippet, Richards, Bird, Jones, BJ

IN Towers, Heeney, Marsh, +2 (no idea who replaces Tippet if derickx Injured, Im not sure who in the ressies with some size is ready?)

        SUB = Shaw

not sure who comes in for Tippet, Reid Plays FB for Richards

        Cheers

I don't think raw speed is the issue. Their core on ball brigade of Mitchell, Hodge, Lewis, Shiels and no quicker than our group of Kennedy, Parker, Mitchell, Hanners. Burgoyne's got a little toe, but so has Jack. I think our speed of Jetta, Cunningham, BJ last night was as quick as theirs. It's just that they are playing with utmost confidence that when they work hard to find space, a team mate will hit them with a lace out kick. Ours either don't know where to run, don't have the confidence to do so, or haven't yet worked out how hard they need to work at senior level (Jetts aside, who at least found space yesterday).

In the Swans' better games this year, the player who has most consistently presented in space has been Hanners, which goes to show it's more about the will to run and work hard than pace, per se.

Based on what we lack and his performance in the ressies yesterday I'd say Heeney's inclusion is a certainty. Beyond that, it'll depend on injuries and Ted's likely suspension I guess. I do hope BJ gets another game though, I liked his effort last night.

Heeney would seem a near certainty. It's hard to know about the other changes before we get more info on injuries and suspensions. I wouldn't mind Ted missing the next game regardless; he just didn't look right yesterday and may need to work his way back from concussion. I remember when Parker got concussed but played the following week. He took a few weeks to get back to himself again.

I'm also happy to give BJ more games. He's got a lot to learn, but the raw talent is there. If he does come through, with his speed and willingness to tackle and do the hard stuff, he could be just what we need up forward or on the wing.

Think Ted and Jetta will get suspended, hits to the head (unless its a solid punch to the back of the head eh Firitto) get games nowadays.

Bird is gone and Tippett may be too. Why do we have to wait until a Monday to get scans. There are scans taking place all weekend, we would know someone who would scan on a Sunday morning so the correct recovery process starts as soon as possible.

Not sure what we do about rucks if Tippett misses.

Happy for BJ to stay, he has bulked up over summer and playing better too.

I'd be playing Reid as a KPD if Ted is suspended as we suspect.

Assuming we lose Bird, KT and Jetta I'd be bringing in Heeney and Hewett and Pyke if fit.

Having said that you just know Towers will be an inclusion....

Need to find a way to become more potent. Most teams have dedicated forwards. We've got one at the moment. The rest are midfielders who spend time forward. Rohan, McGlynn and Heeney will help but it seems to be more than just personnel.

We seem to have too many players of some talent but who lack some or all of the size, body strength, skill and pace required to make a team like Hawthorn ... I don't think you can have more than say two of Mitchell, Lloyd, Shaw, Brandon Jack, Cunningham, Robinson, Towers in a team at the same time, as I am sure we have had up to 6 of them ... even our stars like Kennedy, Parker, Jack, Hanneberry, are lacking in at least 2 of these departments ... I just think that we are several players short of top 4 in the real department, and severely deficient in the right body type, pace & ball handling & disposal skills overall that are required today. Haven't even mentioned the declining Ted, the accident prone Grundy (though loving his endeavour at the moment), the now patchy skills of Smith, and the Tippett "nice guy" who never quite produces more than occasionally (just like at Adelaide) ... not his fault we are paying ridiculous money for him.
I really think it is time the much vaunted Sydney ability to recruit well be reconsidered ... as well as a coach who seems unable to understand what is obvious to most.
Now that's a rant ... but that is how I feel.

Gary we only lack one thing. Players who are footballers and have the skill to deliver the ball with precision under pressure. That's what we lack. Our players waste far too much ball. Other than that it isn't a player problem it is a coaching problem. The coaches are too one dimensional. They can't seem to adjust to Clarkson's strategies (now used by half the coaches in the AFL) and the players haven't got the ball skills to take Hawks on.

In reality it is a drafting problem. We draft too many players who have @@@@ ball handling skills. We do have a few in the twos who are pretty good but they are also young yet. Hewett (kicks both feet & HB both hands), Newman ( not young but great skills, about time to upgrade and give a game), Melican (when not injured), Perris (on the way back from an injury), Heeney (great at delivery), Robbo ( very good kick), Davis (good skills) & Rose is improving and is a wonderful mark. They all have one thing in common, they are footballers. Natural footballers with natural skills. We have too many players who fit the Paul Roos category of athlete first and footballer later. They play the defensive run, run, run game that is so exhausting that sides like Hawks laugh at. They just hit targets all the time because they are highly skilled. They drafted highly skilled players, we didn't. We drafted in and under runners who had endurance to play our hard running game. We need to do the other & keep drafting highly skilled footballers not athletes and change our game plans.

Very hard to see how the team is gonna work now. Feeling some flashbacks to 2013

BJ I thought showed some hardness and intent that he hasn't before. He stays.

I think the changes are only gonna be the forced outs. We don't have enough depth to be making form based changes.

                                Out : Richards bird Tippett.
                                In : laidler heeney towers

Laidler if not still injured If he is unavailable then marsh to come in

                                Heeney is a no brainer.

Towers whilst I don't think he deserves a place long term will have to come in an pinch hit in the ruck around the ground to help out nankervis.
