Yep, we luv ya Shawry!! Huge thanks to a great club man. You gave us great service, full of heart and soul, and picked a good time to pull up stumps. You come across so earthy, heartfelt and funny - I can see why everyone around the club loves you. You will be missed big time. Be brilliant if we can keep you around the club in some capacity - whether at "the highest level", as a runner or somewhere else. Your contribution has been so much more than what we saw on the field. I hope there are others to step up and take on your mantle in this regard.
Shaw set to retire

Thanks Rhyce ... even years ago the mistakes were part of the package of a "risk taker"... it did seem to be getting too much for him for most of this year ... but perhaps having faced the inevitable, he has found the peace to play several good to very good games in a row (though I still have that kick straight to an opponent on Friday night etched in my mind!) ... looks like a Collingwood boy ... gave us much more than we had reason to imagine. Finish well and stick around.Comment

Does Rhyce have any male children? Hope his next big contribution ... after a gut busting run off the back flank in the 2015 GF?... is a father/son selection or two
Thanks for your service Rhyce!Comment

When we recruited him I remember thinking back to the 2003 GF when he played for the Pies and he bounced the ball and fumbled it right in front of me, turned it over and the Lions kicked a goal. I thought oh @@@@@ I don't want him in our team! He still gave us heart failures at the swans but we also saw him grow and become a leader and a mentor. I hope he stays with the club.Comment

Love the way Rhyce plays - takes it on as Taihg did before him. And I posted in the Pies thread that the lack of criticism of his game last Friday was noticeably lacking. I hope he plays his heart out for the rest of the season and, as my namesake says, finishes it with a gut busting run with numerous bounces in the 2015 GF to deliver it onto the chest of Rohan to kick the game-sealing goal.
Shawry won't die wondering - love his enthusiasm. I remember one of his first games for us in Canberra where Goodes stuffed up and got roundly abused by Rhyce. It was clear he'd never take a backwards step. A much loved Blood brother.Comment

I acknowledge that Rhyce was always trying, using his run and pace to create attacking options for many years and probably played his best game for the year against the magpies.
History states:
232 games so far
138 games for the SWANS
Premiership Player
Runner up - Skilton Medal 2011
Runner up - Skilton Medal 2009
Rhyce gave the Swans far more then the Magpies and I have retired the whip for the rest of the year.
Thanks Rhyce for your 7 years of effort and becoming a great 'Team player' for the club.
No negatives today as all successful clubs needs players like Rhyce to assist the club in the hunt for the 'Holy Grail'.
Salute!!??????
He has been playing far better in recent weeks than earlier in the season too. I wonder if his performance lifted after he chose to give it away and therefore knew for sure that this would be it. I can imagine it would be a weight off his shoulders.

Interesting that this doesn't even rate a mention on afl.com.au, it's all about 'Hendo' leaving Carlton, and Yarran 'might' become a Tiger. Shaw retiring.......nothing, yet. Anyway, while I'm here, I must concur with all the above positives on 'Shawry', great servant of the club and yes, hope he stays on to mentor future talent. Three Cheers!! **Edit(a few minutes later!): I'm a dickhead, checked again and there it is, at the bottom;"Premiership Swan Shaw to pull the pin at season's end"...sorry!Last edited by stevoswan; 20 August 2015, 07:37 PM.Comment

Has been far far better than I could ever have imagined. Maybe the Pies don't turn them out as bad as we think? Imagine he did the right thing by the club this year by playing when Malceski went north. Likely stay in some role with the club? If the quality of his football has been a pleasant surprise, his overall leadership has been astonishing.Comment
