I doubt Ben McGlynn feels like a Premiership player...
I wouldn't care if it was the full medallion.
How many players missed a flag, yet the team would likely not have even made it to the GF if they hadn't played during the year?
I'm sure many players would feel that the medallion wasn't 'earned' or appropriate, but there would be others (especially in a more established and accepted environment) who would look at it as recognition to getting teh team there - just not being a part of the day.

Failing that, yes, a secondary award perhaps.
Maybe steal a leaf and do the rings?
Every player gets a ring, only GF day players get the medallion?

The players with the strongest minds and discipline will survive with less rotations. The weak who cant kick or pick up their man, or poor chooses will be weeded out.

Do we know if the clubs don't do something internally for the 8 that missed out and were a part of the core 30 players (for example) who rotated through the year?

I'd be surprised if they didn't get some sort of recognition and were happy to not get a game medal like the rest for the above reasons.
