Is there a reason I shouldn't be pissed?

The father-son rule was designed for sons to play at the club of their father.
Josh Dunkley isn't playing for us.
Forget the points matching. The AFL should just scrap the father-son rule if it's meaningless.

It is now a farce. The whole thing was a debacle. Wonder how long the hairdo will last
You don't ban those who supported your opponent, you make them wallow in their loserdom by covering your victory! You sit them in the front row. You give them a hat! Toby Ziegler

We could have got him if we had wanted to but we needed speed. Another slow mid fielder to replace Bird was not on their horizons at that position in the draft. Replacing Jetta's outside run was the priority.
Those who have the greatest power to hurt us are those we love.

It's an option to the kids and not a right from the club's POV

I think in this instance we have just shown some compassion to a kid with a vindictive farther who has done anything in his power to have to watch the swans play again. Go F yourself Andrew.

I don't think there is anything untoward with what we have done at all, I just feel sorry for a kid whose controlling, grudge bearing father has prevented his son from playing for the team he loves

          I trust Kinnear's judgment.
If he says we don't need him, bad luck kiddo, we don't need you.
I don't think it had anything to do with the attitude of his father, we're not vindictive like that.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Thanks to all of you for calming me down
After years of seeing other teams take father-sons (Gary Ablett Jr, Dustin Fletcher, Jonathan Brown, etc) for a basic pick, this just rubbed me the wrong way.

I agree. Collingwood, Geelong, Essendon - all have repeatedly reaped F/S picks. Change the rules so Sydney can be ripped off again.

I think it's probably in Josh's best interests (& possibly ours) that he stayed in Vic, but the fact that rules were changed gets me a little when other clubs have benefited for years.

It is ironic how last year there was a huge uproar (by Eddie and co.) that we were going to get 2 academy players and a father son for nothing so they introduced the rule changes, but in the end we didn't select Dunkley.

While I would have liked Dunks to be playing for us in my heart, my head said it didn't really make sense to be getting a slow inside mid with questionable disposal. I hope he has a great career. I liked the way his old man went about it on the field (don't know about off though). We still had the opportunity to grab him and it wsa our turn to suffer because of these rule changes this year. That won't be always the case ... certainly not in 2016. I'm stoked we have Kinnear and co. They are legends at recruiting and our list is stronger after this draft - so it's a big tick for me despite the many trading and recruiting hurdles we're had to navigate in recent times.

Why didn't anyone bid for Jack Silvagni. An untouchable perhaps.

                        Essendon bid for him.
Before you criticize a man, walk a mile in his shoes. That way you'll be a mile away and he'll be shoeless.

Because he just isn't that good...he had one decent game where he kicked 6 (including a few joe-the-gooses) but apart from that he was average at best. Honestly don't think he would have been selected if he didn't have that surname.
