I'm not sure whether I should include this letter, but it seemed the most appropriate place even though it is about the cricket (and I dare say in due course the football) rather than directly about Christmas. Perhaps it could be seen as seasonally and emotionally appropriate; if not, I'm happy for it to start a new thread. Anyway, here goes:
On guard against hugs
We attended the Big Bash game at the MCG on Sunday night. Our whole family, including three young children, was screened "airport style". For Edward, our four-year-old, it was his first Big Bash game and he clearly isn't up with the latest terrorism precautions. A burly security guy doing the body scan crouched down and held out his arms to demonstrate the search position, so naturally Edward moved in and gave him a big hug. Trying to hold back laughter the security guard held his arms out again and got a second hug, then a third hug. Makes you wonder how it ever came to this going to a cricket match. Nobody is born to hate; it's something we are taught.
Thomas Reeh, Ashburton
I laughed and laughed, then I as near as dammit wept. Then I remembered a Christmas bit: "a little child shall lead them."

I think your post does belong in the Christmas thread Dimelb. Thanks for sharing it, it beautifully encapsulates the 'reason for the season'.
Happy and safe Christmas to all you Red and White friends out there, and may the new year be the beginning of a successful red and white year.Comment

Read that on Facebook last night dimelb whilst I was actually at the cricket! Such a heartwarming story...I have a 2 year old nephew and he would have done exactly the same thing!Twitter @cmdil

Ahhh, Christmas; the time of year where their are so many people dressed in red and white, that it's just like being at a Swans game. Like, after a couple of drinks, I really can start to kid myself, that I am actually surrounded by a heap of closet Swan supporters.
And thanks for the shout out Stevo: hopefully we won't have to take out quite as big sticks next year. Though that might be a bit optimistic.
Merry Christmas to all who post: especially the folks whose writing skills have made laugh, made me think and occasionally even made me a bit misty eyed.Comment

Merry Christmas from the Northern/ Western Hemisphere to all! Enjoy your summer Christmas as it is winter here (going to be an unseasonably warm 8 degrees C on Christmas Day in this Sydney this year though).
I don't post much but want to thank you all as I learn a lot about the Sydney Swans though this forum!
All the best in 2016!!Comment

Many thanks Davey, great to hear from you. I hope you stay with us now that the wonderful Mike Pyke has retired (so sad, was special having a Canadian, now an Aussie, in our team). Have a good cold Christmas up there, but not a white one it seems. When are you coming down under to see a live match??
I definitely plan to visit and see some games - probably either in 2017 or 2018 all being well.Comment
