Hewett spent a lot of time in the forward line in the latest NEAFL practice game, much more than his usual share. So I would expect him to play predominantly forward and perhaps get a 5-10 min spell in the midfield if a Kennedy Mitchell or Parker rests up forward.

The most starkly missing name to me is BJ. While I remain unconvinced, I would have thought he's ahead of Hiscox and probably Robinson too. It's surprising not to see him even as an emergency. There was even a fluff piece about him yesterday.
Has he injured himself on the eve of the season? We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!Comment

Heard on the grapevine that an important in for Saturday night is now confirmed!I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

The game must change a bit given the reduction in rotations and that is where endurance players are at an increased advantage. It may be that fringe guys could be picked on their ability to run out a game strongly playing against a tiring opponent. Remember the very high rotation, particularly of midfielders, has been with us since the 2010 season so real endurance hasn't been a big priority since then.
What I won't miss is that annoying running off the ground as soon as a player kicks a goal. Never understood why that happened, when you're hot stay on the paddock!

I've already commented that I would have preferred Rose to Robbo for that final spot in the 22, but I can understand the reasons for the selection. Robbo is a strong aerobic athlete and we know he can run out the game and carry his fair share of minutes. This may have been the determining factor in his selection. I noticed in the Carlton Richmond game that Carlton started falling away from their defensive coverage in the 4th quarter which allowed Richmond to take greater control of the game (although they were still lucky to win).
It may come down to which side is more capable of running out the game. I hope our 3 1st gamers all perform well. I have a lot of confidence in them. I think they'll be a big part of our side for many years to come.
Does form count anymore? We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!Comment

I am hoping that there must have something slowing Robbo down in the NAB because his form was terrible. It reminds me of the decision to play McGlynn in the finals last year. On form he should never have played and that was borne out in the final.
Does form count anymore?
Really happy to see Papley and Hewett getting a shot at the big time. What a great story Papley is, and Hewett has real potential in my book, I can't wait to see if he can take the step up at AFL level, as I think he will.
The best bit of the AFL this year though is - no wretched Substitute rule!!!!"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

He was pretty good in the NAB Challenge while resting in the forward line. Kicked 2 & 1 in his two matches. He is really dangerous because he uses the ball so well. I think Buddy, Tip and Deano are going to love leading to him, Papley, Mills, Heeney & Talia. They all have pretty good delivery. Jones is no slouch either and Rampe on the run with 60 metre passes is very good. Just have to hope Hannas, Joey & Kizza can improve their passing. they all get leather poisoning now to make it work for us.Comment

Could it be that by playing BJ in the reserves that they are maintaining his match fitness and that emergencies will be playing reserves next week?We have them where we want them, everything is going according to plan!Comment
-
Certainly plausible. It could also be that they have a couple of specific things they want him to work on, and think he'll be better able to do that playing a central role in the NEAFL team, rather than as a peripheral player in the senior team.Comment

he was pretty @@@@ful in the NAB. Didn't do anything that warrented his selection as even an emergency.Comment

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment
